I doubt he would. Whitty was the one today who said the list of participants should be released. Look at the scientists involved - one of them would have squealed if Cummings had made the decisions - Ferguson has hardly been a stranger to the media throughout this and he’s not tied in the way Vallance may be.

I don't know, I think Whitty has suddenly woken up and realised that he and the scientists have been set up to take the fall for Johnson/Cummins' (and it will be his) 'interpretation', and implementation of his prefererred outcomes. We'll see soon hopefully when the blame game starts.

That’s also possible, although I’d be amazed if the scientists involved (most of them non government bods) didn’t shout about it. It’s not like there aren’t easy ways of doing so. It really depends on whether participation was asking questions, which in this crisis situation is perfectly reasonable, or if they are contributors to decisions, which is abhorrent. The only way to find out may be if the minutes are released.

This committee doesn’t make decisions though. It’s an advisory committee. It provides recommendations which are then put to ministers to act upon (or not). If Cummings was involved in shaping the recommendations (which seems likely otherwise why else was he involved) and the decisions (which is nailed on) something is very wrong here.

Decision for what the recommendations should be I meant. One would assume they produced some sort of exec summary of advice. That was then either accepted or ignored. The government have repeatedly said it was accepted. If he’s shaped the recommendation that’s what I meant is abhorrent. If he’s listened in and asked questions, that’s reasonable (by reasonable, obviously he shouldn’t be anywhere near anything as he’s a complete git but that’s a different matter - he is, and we know he is, senior advisor).

It’s a scientific advisory committee. He’s a political adviser. He has no business being there. If he has a role at all it’s when ministers are considering the committee’s recommendations.

Corona Virus on 20:04 - Apr 24 by londonlisa2001 | I’ve no idea. But at the moment we are dripping out of lockdown. It may be designed that way (as lockdown was - London certainly self isolated a week earlier than the official lockdown). I’m not moving unless absolutely necessary until there’s a vaccine... |
...Lisa, a vaccine is unlikely for at least 12 months, the majority of trials fail at some point. I'd like to be proven wrong and there could be a chance with the levels of worldwide investigations into a potential vaccine but I suspect that we may have to go with a pharmaceutical mitigation therapy in the short term. But yes, without a vaccine or pharmaceutical mitigation therapy your choice of NPI is sound

The herd immunity (minus a vaccine) and bollocks to old people has got Cummings’ mucky paws all over it. From The Independent “On the same day Dominic Cummings, the chief advisor to Boris Johnson, is reported to have brought up the issue of herd immunity in a discussion with tech industry leaders. Two days later the government’s chief scientific adviser, Sir Patrick Vallance, told BBC Radio 4 that one of the key things we need to do is to “build up some kind of herd immunity so more people are immune to this disease and we reduce the transmission”. Matt Hancock, the health secretary, insisted a few days later that achieving herd immunity was not a stated policy. Instead, he said, “in the coming weeks” people over the age of 70 will be told to self-isolate. Richard Horton, editor-in-chief of the medical journal Lancet told the Commons Science and Technology Select Committee at the end of last month that SAGE, despite being chaired by the chief medical officer, Chris Whitty, and the chief scientific officer, Sir Patrick Vallance, had little input from public health doctors and medical officers. The dominant voices advising the government, he said, were mathematical modellers and behavioural scientists, including Dr Halpern.”

It's all going according to his plan. Create discord and create confusion, thus causing arguments amongst the populace. Meanwhile trade talks with the US gather pace, with Liz Truss (yes, you read that correctly) leading this. We are in very dangerous times.

A few people I know have been wondering why they spent 8 million on the hospital in the MS, which as yet hadn’t been used and the Heath for example is still less than half full. 40% according to my next door neighbour nurse who works there everyday. I get they might have believed they could require it, couldn’t they have found a proper building to construct it in so it can remain permanently? It’s going to have to be dismantled at some point isn’t it? Surely there is an old factory warehouse that has shut they could have built the wards in? Enlighten me

Indeed. A few points- the immune system clearing an infection does not mean there is memory and subsequent protection to re-infection. Production of antibody does not always mean protection. SAGE has neither an immunologist/vaccine expert nor a specialist is diagnostics. Some very good scientists but very weighted with modelling and epidemiology and not hands-on clinical virologists or emerging disease expertise.

Does sound like a little more variety might be good, although I understood attendance varied depending on the particular issue being discussed. Prof do you think those many very good scientists you mention, that sit on SAGE, have all to a person been corrupted as suggested here, as it seems a little far fetched to me, that at such a time, they would all to a person, be so lily livered to sell out their country, ideals and lifetime work... “If it is true that Dominic Cummings attended meetings of Sage, then the government led by Boris Johnson has utterly corrupted independent scientific advice,” Richard Horton tweeted. “But I’m afraid to say that the scientists who sit on Sage have allowed themselves to be corrupted”, including the chief scientific officer and chief medical officer. Surely at least some would have the fortitude and moral fibre to stand up to any interference, if any was forthcoming. I know for instance official statisticians will take no interference from politicians to manipulate figures even in relation to adjusting reporting periods to make them look more favourable.
