When I was growing up, England nearly always wore blue shorts with their home shirt, and white shorts with their red away shirt.
Germany always wore black shorts with their white shirt, and white shorts with their green shirt.
France wore white shorts with their blue shirt and red socks.
Spain wore blue shorts with their red shirts.
Netherlands wore white shorts with their orange shirt.
Now they all wear one colour kits.
It can’t be a FIFA directive as Brazil still wear blue shorts and white socks with their yellow/gold shirt.

i recall beckham had England go all white strip when we played argies in 2002, he thought it lucky, we won and it maybe carried on from there. ??
the all one colour kits is recent and i would prefer traditional kits worn as for the new england kits, the three lions badge at an angle looks like a portis gate! |  | | |

What’s the thing with textured effects and shaded patterns? Is a straight plain colour too difficult for the kit designers to justify their fee? |
Maybe it’s because all the player’s tattoos were distracting from simple designs so they had to think of something? |  |

Or was it blue and red shirts? Does colour blindness effect that many people? I'd imagine it's to do with shirt sales. Nothing more. It's a bit like music, the 'best' music is rarely top of the charts these days, if it ever was. | |

With you all the way. I used to really like Hungary’s red shirt, white shorts and green socks too.
One of my pet peeves in club football is teams wearing away kits when there’s no colour clash. Especially pis ses me off in derbies. I’m still annoyed that we had to wear a blue third kit against Atletico Madrid in the Europa League final, despite the fact Real Madrid always wear white against them. UEFA tw ats. |

Germany had some really cool green away shirts back in the day.
I went on a lads camping trip in southern Germany in the early 90s. We spent pretty much the whole time in the bar at the campsite and one of the bar staff in there kept on at us about how much he liked our English football shirts. (I was there with 2 mates, a Pompey fan and a West Brom fan)
On the last night after several steins, he persuaded me to swap my QPR Brooks home shirt for one of these.
I thought then, and I still think now, that it is a fücking great shirt.
But back in England, I got so much grief the first couple of times I wore it that I gave it to a charity shop on Shepherds Bush Green.

I do like a good second kit, like our Dennis The Menace, West Brom's green and yellow stripes, the England 1966 red shirt and white shorts and I include the German green shirt - don't know why they've given that up. (Can't think of too many other examples at international level). | | | |
