Brexit has failed says Farage on 18:47 - May 23 by SullutaCreturned | Taxation isn't high now becayse of brexit, it's because the tories are rubbish. Don't forget all the green taxes we pay and fr what? To be told we all have to pay even more. The NHS has been in trouble for decades, every year it has gotten worse. We dont have the labour shortage because there's nobody who can work but there are plenty of people who have just given up after covid, early retirements are high. Then there' people who are leaving the country, NHS workers have been leaving in droves for Australia, NZ and even Canada. Again, that's our rubbish governments. In areas where there are actually plenty of jobs and they can't recruit it is ften because people don't want to do those jobs, specially at the offered wages. Where are the 3 million unemployed? The fact is that we are where we are partly because of brexit, the Ukraine war and covid which has all been exacerbated by our utterly useless politicians. |
It was never deliverable by anyone. This is because it is a totally bollox idea. Happy to help your understanding.

A bit like being ruled by an unelected EU President and 28 unelected EU commissioners that nobody voted for. Fortunately the intelligent majority of the UK saw through this undemocratic farce that the EU has become.

YouGov polling yesterday had leaving as the right choice at 31%, its lowest ever. Wrong to leave at 56%, its highest level. The polls are liteally only moving in one direction. Either the intelligent majority have become less intelligent, or they've beome better informed. Brexit has failed says Farage on 16:33 - May 23 by Kilkennyjack | What remain said was the truth. So called Project Fear was the truth. Taxation - highest for 70 years, labour shortages killing the NHS, bottom for economic growth, etc Brexit can never work. Blame the EU, blame the uk politicians, blame the judges, blame the civil service, blame the unions, blame everyone and anyone except Brexit. Johnson, Gove, and Farage lied repeatedly - Turkey have not joined the EU for example. A smaller economy means less opportunity, less jobs and less tax paid. Brexit can never work. Starmer will call it something else, but the uk will realign under a Labour government and we will all be better off for it. 🇪🇺 |
You’ve contradicted yourself there. You say taxation highest in 70 years but then say with a smaller economy we pay less taxes. So which one is it?

Sackfuls of Qatari cash found in homes and offices of vice presidents and parliamentarians show who they are working for. It’s not the European people.

Taxation is the highest now, thats just a fact. Thats because of this disaster of a Tory govt over 13 years. The impact of brexit will reduce the uk economy by 4% GDP over the next 15 years. If you dont change the tax rates then the current total tax take will fall. To keep the same total tax take, then you would have to increase the taxes still further. Why dont you know how taxation works ?

Do you actually know how UKgov polls work. They do poll on a representative sample basis but base their poll on the responses from their panel of pollsters which generally had a left wing bias of 2 to 1 on any issues. It is probably the most most biased polling company about. You can predict the results of any political poll they conduct which means the results are completely meaningless. The only useless polls they conduct are non political polls.

Maybe taxation is so high because the hated tories spent so much during covoid to keep 12 million people from unemployed and poverty by paying their wages for over a year as well as spending billions buying and distributing vaccines to save millions of live. You think that is a disaster I think they should be applauded for do that. Of course taxes have to rise to pay for that. I guess you want to pay the full price for gas and electricity rather than the nasty Conservatives putting a price cap prices as well as giving every household in the country at least £650 towards their bills plus a lot more to the poorest households. Once again to quote the 4% GDP figure which is a worst case guess by some experts. The same experts who predicted 3 million job losses and a year long recession both of which never happened. Meanwhile inflation in the paradise of the EU is 8.4% and the EU unemployment rate is 50 HIGHER than the UK. That right 50% HIGHER.

As I've said before, using the EU average as the comparason seems incredibly unambitious to me. Yestersday's FT comparisons is where we should be looking as were outside the EU now. https://www.ft.com/content/088d3368-bb8b-4ff3-9df7-a7680d4d81b2

You really believe that the poll could be out 2 to 1? That would put Brexit more popular than 2016. Here's a lovely bit of evidence on you gov's pollitical polling accuracy. https://www.markpack.org.uk/168573/yougov-is-it-biased-to-the-conservatives/

The points re taxation are very valid, we have to pay for what’s be spent and anyone who disagrees is barking, that includes those on the left and those on the right ( which there seem to be more of). We saw wha5 happened with Liz Truss budget when we had proposals for tax cuts that weren’t funded. I would add there is scope to make the taxation system fairer, those countries who avoid paying tax here using tax havens etc should be required to pay tax here. In terms of inflation we’re currently at 8.7% which is quite close to the EU figure of 8.1%, the traditional big economies of the EU - Germany, France, followed by the Netherlands, Belgium and Spain all have lower or much lower inflation rates than the IK, Italy is the exception and is also sitting at 8.7%. What really pushes up the EU inflation rate are the former Eastern Bloc countries like Hungary, the Baltic states, Czech Republic etc who have been massively affected by the Ukraine business. The inflation rate in Euro countries is 7% - lower again. The 4% figure is indeed an estimate base on historical trends and data. Unemployment is higher in parts of the EU, but we’ve seen an enormous rise in the numbers of economically inactive people in the U.K. which may be impacting on unemployment rates. There’s been an increase of hundreds of thousands on sick. Brexit ma6 have offered us huge advantages but equally it may not. What I think is fair to say is that the situation we’ve ended up is in part because our politicians have served up a poor deal. For some, the national interest comes second to their resonance agenda.

Cherry picking figures is easy. How has the comparison been since 2016. What the performance of both countries in relation to the financial effect of covid? [Post edited 25 May 2023 13:52]

The EU average is often distorted by tiny tax havens like Ireland and Luxembourg using creative use of loopholes and Bermuda based corporations to launder profits which grossly and artificially over inflate their figures.

Hang on now, we are not allowed to go with the averages ANd we are not allowed to cherry pick, you can't have it both ways. The latest figures are the latest figures. If we're not allowed to use averages why are you asking to compare figures over the last 6 years? You can't have it both ways. Covid and the war i Ukraine have had a massive financial impact, anyone who thinks they haven't is barking. The cost of living hasn't risen so much solely because of brexit, it's because of the dusruption to supplies and services caused by those 2 things. maybe we should keep an eye on the USA, if they don't renegotiate their debt ceiling before June 1st there will be another massive economic shock though that will also no doubt be put down to brexit.

Absolutly Cat. There's a difference picking up a one off figure, for a single county over a selected period against comparing an average over time. I'll stand by not using the EU average as it's unambitious, especially as things were supposed to be better. I completely agree that that the Covid had a massive impact, however, that impact was different for each country. We started so far behind some that claiming rapid growth doesnt tell the full picture. Agree also with Ukraine but as the Major posted, this disproportionately hurt neighboring countries, skwing the average. I'm not so sure about the USA, seems to me that they're doing quite a lot of the damage to themselves with political point scoring. Just for clarity I'm absolutely not claiming all our ills are Brexit related. On top of the crisis mentioned we'd had 10 years of austerity that put us in a harmful position.

Yes, for 10 years we have had an absolutely shocking government, greedy, self serving, lying, deceitful and crooked. that also has a lot to do with it. The USA totally are contributing to their own demise but if they hit the skids they are taking a lot of other countries with them, us included.

Programmes of austerity across Europe were demanded by the EU as a response to the financial crash of 2008. Nation states had to submit their budgets in advance for scrutiny that they were following the spending rules. If any nation didn’t comply they’d receive threatening letters regarding sanctions or expulsion. The tories and the Lib Dems may have driven the austerity vehicle for the longest and hardest part of the journey but it was started by Gordon Brown in mid to late 2009 and it was the EU finally clamping down on rules long ignored from Maastricht that made the journey a necessity.

There’s nothing there I don’t agree with. Yes we had to adjust after 2008. No, there was no need to go so hard for so long. Can you imagine what it would have been like if the Lib Dems weren’t there early in with a thumb on the scales?

I don’t remember much protest at the time from LD. They are/were the arch europhiles in parliament and would have accepted it without question. Clegg and Cameron were virtual clones of each other. The Lib Dems also like to forget it was them who were campaigning for years before anybody else for an in out referendum.
