I understand that but he went on record pre brecit saying a lot of things and was chalked a liar and couldn't be trusted. It now appears that those people are now quoting him and believing what he is saying now. As I say, I am not saying that he is right or wrong but it just seems to be a massive trail of contradictions going on here.

A lot of things he said pre Brexit were seen as not correct by many and has been proven so. I don't know if it makes him a liar or if he genuinely believed it.

We certainly got off to a bad start with initial Brexit negotiations being spearheaded by staunch Remainers Theresa May and Phillip Hammond, along with a pro-EU civil service.

Spot on OHL. Weird indeed. The Remain campaign was lacklustre, sure, but the Leave side were a bunch of chancers and toffs. Was it the media pumping pro Brexit agendas every night, or are many of our fellow citizens a bit twp. It could never work, it was bollox from start to finish. [Post edited 17 May 2023 23:12]

Toffs and chancers....that's hilarious, the tories were for remain and the majority of the political establishment was for remain. Tories, Labour and LibDem even came together for a remain campaign, https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2016/jul/05/how-remain-failed-inside-story- What didn't help was that people didn't realise Labour were remain, officially that is because Corbyn was so firmly on the fence he had splinters up his nose. What also didn't help was rich scuzzbuckets like Bob Geldof hurling abuse at working people. While others branded anybody daring to reveal they were for leaving was branded racist, xenophobic and thick because, you know, the best way to change somebody's mind is to hurl insults at them! Like that has ever worked as Kilkenny should know, he'sconstantly calling others twp but how many have ever gone over to his side of the argument? In fact, as we see with independence and despite hyperbolic claims about support, its only a small number in Wales that really support it, a noisy minority who shout loud and long but get nowhere. Leave told lies, remain told lies, they are political people so wat could we expect. The sad truth is now that people say all thats' going on is down to brexit with covid and the war in Ukraine being ignored as catalysts for our problems. The other problem of course is the greedy chancers at corporations who keep prices artificially high to rip us off. Brexit could still succeed but we need capable politicians in government so come the next election I firmly believe Labour will win and we will find out how capable they are but my hopes are not high.
Brexit has failed says Farage on 09:25 - May 18 with 3844 views | majorraglan | In my opinion Brexit has ended up being a disaster. When we voted for Brexit a lot of people including many of our politicians didn’t really know what Brexit would look like, was it a hard Brexit a soft Brexit or somewhere in between. We were told we’d be taking back control, taking back control of our borders a trade deal would be easy to agree etc etc. In reality, anyone with half a brain knew there’d be an economic hit and there has been. I suspect Theresa May and her negotiating team could see the potential economic hit and the problem with Northern Ireland hence her approach to the negotiations. On the other side of the coin we had the ERG who wanted a very hard exit and we also had Boris trying to serve his ego and realise his personal ambition of becoming PM. Theresa May ended up fudging everything in an an attempt to maintain unity in the Conservative Party and she put the National interest behind the interests of the Conservative Party. Then we have Boris. He got us out of the EU, but his oven ready deal was anything but and he lied and lied to get it over the line - just look at what’s happened in Northern Ireland. The execution of Brexit by Boris cabal has been shameful. The EU now have checks on our goods entering Europe - we haven’t been introduced the reciprocal checks on inbound goods as we don’t have the infrastructure at our ports or the staff which means our businesses are being disadvantaged. We’ve not taken control of our borders, immigration (which was a huge factor for many people in Brexit) is higher now than it’s ever been and set to continue rising. We’ve had people like JRM in government - a guy that had to ask Sun readers to identify potential benefits of Brexit, the guy that proposed a bonfire of laws when he didn’t know how many laws there were and how it would affect the country. I’m all for cutting unnecessary red tape - but surely it needs to be done by having a sensible approach, do your homework, understand the situation, work out exactly how many laws there are, in what areas and what happens when we repeal them. As I’ve said, anyone with half a brain knew there’d be an economic hit and many were prepared to take the hit as a trade off for other benefits, but the uncertainty and messing about has driven investment away and made the hit much larger - if we’re not careful it will be even bigger as companies like Vauxhall bail out. I’m not a great Farage fan, he’s a politician and his personal interests and those of his backers will be among his primary considerations but he is right - Brexit has failed because of its woeful execution by the Conservative government. Farage is to a degree culpable in all this, UKIPs “deal” with the Conservatives at the last GE when they stood aside to give Boris a free run left us with the government we have now who’ve completely botched things up. As the situation were left in deteriorates, it seems the ‘right’ want to lurch even further to the right and take an even harder approach to Brexit which could make things worse. Hopefully Sunak will take a more pragmatic approach and we’ll start to see a few benefits appearing, but as Farage has pointed out so far Brexit has been a disaster.

As usual, major, a reasoned opinion and I agree with it. May started the slide and Bojo turned it into a virtual death spiral. Sunak may be able to make some improvements but we need a new government with a fresh mandate to go back to the EU but even then we need the EU to come to the table with a reasonable attitude and not continue trying to punish us for our democratic choice. The EU are just as guilty of putting their political desires ahead of the best interests of the people they are supposed to represent. The EU has it's own probems too, inflation at over 9%, interests rates rising yet they have changed their forecasts and say inflation will be don by 6 points next year to 3.1 but as we all know, these forecasts are pointless and always end up being revised. growth in the EU is, ironically, somewhat driven by profits harvested form the UK by corporations like EDF and Npower who continue to cream billions off UK utilities bills. Starmer has a big job on, assuming he wins but it is also a big opportunity. Do a very good job and he could keep Labour in power for decades but again, I won't hold my breath. The economic hit was bound to happen but political hopelessness has cost us dear. Liz Truss should get on a fast plane to somewhere else and never show her face again, Bojo should be facing crimina charges and even Sunak should be under investigation. The Tories are a busted flush, a failed government who, despite the spin are the worst government in my adult lifetime, yes even worse than Blair. And I voted for Bair the first time!

Brexit has failed says Farage on 16:26 - May 18 with 3759 views | Gwyn737 | A few comments on here about how Brexit was doomed to fail because of cross party remainers and a pro EU civil service, but no recognition of why they felt that way. One explanation is that is was a bad idea and they were right to feel that way. Meanwhile you had Farage and co telling people what it would be like but they had no power and no accountability. We can try and renegotiate until the cows come home but it has to be recocognised that the EU don't want Brexit to be success. If you were in their shoes why would you help? A failing Brexit is the dream for the Pro EU politicians. Every time a different country wants to leave they can point to the UK and say 'is that what you want?!...)
