Rowett reacts to QPR defeat. 09:40 - Apr 10 with 2576 viewsted_hendrix

If anybody's Interested, from the Oxford Mail.

U’s head coach Rowett said: “With the performance that we put in on Saturday, what you can’t do is just put an abject performance in for probably 30 minutes I would say, but the two goals, we just gave them away quite frankly.

“I’m not trying to take anything away from QPR. Maybe they played with the same desperation as what we played with on Saturday, but the game meant just as much to both teams.

“That was the disappointment really. I think we didn’t show any energy really in the first half, we didn’t go and press with any intensity.

“I just thought we looked leggy for some strange reason, and like I said, when you give goals away like that, the two goals should never happen and it’s probably better if that’s all I say about that.”

Rowett added: “We played like we didn’t have that same spark. Whether or not sometimes the energy you put into a Saturday game against Sheffield United to win the game, but like I’ve said all season, if you’re a good team, you have to go again and you have to have that desire to go again.

“I’m not questioning the players’ desire. What I am saying is that it looked like a performance where we didn’t turn up with the same aggression and the same spirit that we showed on Saturday.

“Sometimes that gives the opposition a chance, but I’ve seen many performances like that over the years, where you don’t play well for 30 minutes and it’s still 0-0, and then when you do change things, you have an opportunity to swing the momentum of the game.

“I think that’s the disappointment. To come in at half-time and be 2-0 down in the matter that we were, with both set pieces and both very soft goals.

“QPR haven’t really had to work hard to score, and you don’t expect the second goal to be scored a yard off the line in the middle of the goal.”

My Father had a profound influence on me, he was a lunatic.

Can't see where he's wrong at all there.

What was his beef with Marti about at the end?

If that's all he had to say I wonder why he had his finger in Marti's face at the end?

If it was about time wasting they had a total of 17 minutes added on.

That looks an honest assessment to me.

Fair enough.

Given their win against Blades I thought they'd be full of confidence and would be firing on all cylinders from the off.

Poll: How old is everyone on here?

That's a very balanced assessment. Those first two goals shouldn't be happening at any decent level of football. It was as if their keeper was a complete novice playing in goal for the very first time. Do I care!! Thank you for being so charitable, Jamie Cumming.

I thought that was the 4th official? And maybe to do with him rushing out of his technical area to celebrate with the players after Yang had scored?

Probably miles off, but I can't think of any other reason.

I think he was shouting at the 4th official rather than Marti

It's at the end of the extended highlights on the offish. It's Oliver Langford, the 4th official, who was wagging his finger at Marti. Probably the celebration but could just be that Langford is a tvat.

Rowett just shook Marti's hand, nothing untoward from him.

My take on the issue with the fourth official waa he was pointing out Marti is supposed to stay around the technical area and not go down to the corner flag to join in the third goal celebrations. I reckon he was pointing towards the corner flag at the final whistle making that point. No problems with Rowett who was wearing the cap.

Given Rowett lost a big six pointer last season with Birmingham and another six pointer last night, you could forgive him for being sick of the sight of QPR but that interview is pretty balanced.
