Trebles 18:30 - Apr 18 with 1865 viewsBeechball

We don't often beat teams three times in one season. Besides the one we achieved today ( and hopefully another on Monday ) , I can recall Crewe in 83/84 and Bolton in 18/19 . Any others TVOS ?

Bolton was 19/20.

Lincoln 89/90 when we got to the 5th round of the FA Cup.

We actually beat Bolton four times in 2019/20, although one was on penalties in the EFL Trophy.

Three wins against:

Altrincham (2024/25)
Bolton (2019/20) plus one win on pens
Chesterfield (2016/17)
Crewe (2014/15)
Oxford (2004/05)
Carlisle (1999/00)
Doncaster (1997/98)
Darlington (1995/96)
Lincoln (1989/90)
Crewe (1983/84)
Barrow (1965/66)
Stockport (1964/65)
Hartlepool (1946/47)

...... and we could still meet them in the play offs.

Notlob four times then I suppose it would be tricky to play a team more times.

The maximum (by my reckoning) would be six

- home and away league fixtures
- FA Cup & League Cup/FA Trophy
- two playoff games

Prior to cup games ending after 1st replay then no replay, the potential number of games was infinite! (unless there was some arcane rule that involved the toss of a coin after several replays?)

Edit: forgot about other tinpot cup fixtures... any updates on that maximum?

Possibly 8 if you draw each other in the football league trophy too! (Group game and northern final)

In 1981-2 we played Hull City 5 times (FACup tie went to three games). Oddly it was the first time we had played them for 22 years..

When (not if!) we get back to the Football League then maximum would be 9 I think.

2 league games
1 FACup game
2 league cup games ( semi final)
2 play off games
2 Football League Trophy (group plus final)

I believe we've also played Hull City at five different venues:
Spotland/COA
Anlaby Road
Boothferry Park
KC Stadium
Elland Road (cup 2nd replay)

Am I right in thinking if we ever play them at The Amex we will have played Brighton at 5 different locations?
Spotland
Goldstone
Gillingham
Withdean
Amex.
