New US/UK trade deal 22:51 - May 8 with 1455 viewsTummer_from_Texas

I was hoping we could send Megan Markle and John Oliver back as part of it, but it's a start.

It's easy to make deals when you are giving more than you are getting.
Chagos, India and now America, Starmer is playing a blinder.

The Chagos deal was negotiated by the last govt.

The last 4 Conservative PMs failed to get a trade deal with the US, Starmer odes that and with India withing a week

Correct.

Starmer is not for me but he is an adult.
That alone is a huge improvement the 3 word slogans of Johnson, Mogg, Truss and Gove.

A world statesman who will take this country into a new direction ,mark my words .

Agreed - we are going back to the EU and its good to see.

We wont join or the old gammon will cry, but it will be alignment and sensible which, in effect, is what many Brexit voters wanted as a first step.

No Remain was the patriotic vote.

But i prefer to believe that my fellow citizens were duped by posh English boys, rather than they deliberately wanted to damage their own country.

Perhaps i am being too generous.

Did you want to damage your own country ?

Remain wouldn't have been patriotic, signing oiver evermore powers to unelected, foreign politicians.

patriotism
/ˈpeɪtrɪətɪz(ə)m/
noun
the quality of being patriotic; devotion to and vigorous support for one's country.

You rail against Westminster but then would sign us over to people across the sea. That is more akin to traitorous.

I think Trump could overhaul US food standards. He like a revolution. Starmer would have told him US food standards are way below ours a legacy of the EU presumably.

RFK the Kennedy with a croaky voice had been telling Trump the same. In suggested an upgrade in US food standards in an off the cuff comment talking about chlorination practices. Glycophosphate is also very controversial.

He could with a stroke of a pen take up EU standards.

By doing this he would open huge markets for US farmers while giving them a major headache ( presumably) to achieve conformance. That would be right up his street.

He wants to leave e a list of things in his legacy and improved food standards would be one of them

Given that Trump is sweeping away environmental protections and regulation why do you think he will increase rules, regulation etc in the food sector?
Earlier this year millions of birds were killed following an outbreak of bird flu, this ended up with the price of eggs going through the roof which saw the Republicans laid the blame squarely at Biden’s door. Amending food legislation to reduce chlorination, the use of antibiotics etc etc is only going to drive prices up at a time prices may also be increasing as a result of tariffs etc, all this will do is further fuel inflationary pressures and further increase the prices on the supermarket shelves.

I may be wrong, but I just can’t see it.

I saw this. He said that they wanted to supply food for export that meets UK standards. It should not be that difficult. Specific ranches working for the export market.

It is understood that small countries given access to huge populations get a worse deal. USA negotiators would say to the UK people. " We are giving you access to 365m consumers. You are giving us 65m consumers. You can not expect equality in any deal".

Labour has clearly accepted this principle whereas Conservatives did not. It is a win win especially if UK products are elite like Range Rovers and Lotus cars

Nurse, nurse, this man needs his medication …..

1 January 1973 the uk became a member of the European Communities.
Thatcher was in favour.

From that date the UK played a full role in the evolution of European politics abd security.
Nobody forced us.
In 9 years Blair said there was not one decision that he took against his will.

Only the posh deregulation shysters would gain in a Brexit scenario.
The lied and lied.
Believing them is not patriotic but it was foolish.

He did good for Wales devolving us power but badly for Iraq. He lied and was found out. After massive casualties he found out what Dr Kelly said to the BBC before the war was correct. There were no WmD in Iraq..

One the other hand Saddam was a butcher who had gassed 4000 Kurds and started two previous wars against Iran and Kuwait .

Yes if you ignore devolution to Scotland and Wales, plus peace in the north of Ireland you are spot on.

The first and only person to date to lead the Labour party to three consecutive general election victories. The will of the people.

Record investment in the NHS, schools and the police rescued public services. The introduction of the National Minimum Wage and the New Deal meant more jobs paying a decent wage,

But yes apart from that ….

You may want to have a rethink when it comes to Blair ,the effects of his vanity are still being felt today ,
£8.2 billion – The total audited cost of UK operations in Iraq since 2003, according to an audit carried out by the Ministry of Defence in January 2015.
£3 billion – Amount the government set aside to cover “the full costs of the UK‟s military obligations” in Iraq in the 2003 Budget

179 – The number of British Armed Forces personnel or Ministry of Defence civilians killed since March 2003. 136 of these were killed as a result of hostile action

and more importantly the effect of Blairs quest for recognition as a world statesman cost the Iraqi people
209,982 – The number of Iraqi civilians killed between 2003 and 2022, according to figures from Iraq Body Count (IBC).* In 2006 alone, 29,526 civilians were killed, making it the bloodiest year for the Iraqi civilian death toll.

Devolution to Wales? Considerably poorer outcomes against every measure that matters since 1999. Cheers Tone.

Record debt to the NHS. Same for schools. Turns out that borrowing shitloads of cash at extortionate rates comes back to bite you on the arse in the end, even if millions of morons think that you've "invested".

The New Deal and Minimum Wage drove down earnings for skilled people. I personally witnessed jobs that were going for £10ph reduced by 35-40% in the immediate aftermath of the NMW being introduced.

Then we imported loads of Eastern Europeans who would work for that wage. Blair and New Labour killed the professional Working Class almost overnight.

Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back.

A very brief but necessary vist to the City Centre on Saturday summed up our new generation of potential workers .

Oxford Street littered with doped up smack heads shouting and screaming in front of families out on a shopping trip to the Market , any chance of them getting gainful employment and becoming an asset to the Community .
Good luck in achieving that .

Did seem some of the hoodie wearing , mumbling into their phones delivery bikers who might have been trying to make an effort to work .
