Interesting detail from the the Middlesborough official story about their retained list:
"Clubs must submit a list of all out-of-contract players whose services are not being retained by Saturday 17 May."
Therefore, the club will be fully aware of the fate of Jimmy Dunne, all the other out of contract and loan players. Tomorrow, the EFL will also know. I wonder when the club will feel able to communicate this to their primary stakeholders, the fans? As far as I can tell, every other club has made their choices public. |  | | |  |

Assume the PL cup had something to do with this 'delay' as unsure how wise it is to communicate the release of players before the final, likewise it would be strange to announce the release of a player the day after they win the cup (unless they already knew).
So let some time pass then give the main players their 'day in the sun' coverage (Murphy, Paal). Or do you seperate 1st team from dev squad etc. either way its not really that big a deal as here we have it in black and white. |  | | |

Agree with a lot of what’s being said, but we shouldn’t be releasing anyone without replacements, and we shouldn’t be signing replacements without a manager‘s input.
We might have another season of a manager managing someone else’s signings. I can’t see that going well. |  | | |

Thats the nub of it though isn't it?
The average lifespan of a Championship manager is less than one season. MC was an exception to this with his tenure, was he one of the longer serving at two seasons?
Anyway, all of this points to the solid idea that we shouldn't have a manager dictate the playing style and personnel of the team.
If the club has a DoF they can create this ethos and we can try to get some continuity in the club, where a coach can look after the team and the coach could be easily replaced without disrupting the team each time.
I'm not sure I like this, but I think the days of a Wenger or Fergie running all aspects of a club are mostly gone now.
Its a shame, as I think Warnock or Warburton would both have been great DoF's given this remit and resources that the club has now.
Let's see what CN can do with this summers massive rebuild, as well as the tough job of finding a Coach thats good enough to work within this remit (but not too good that they get poached, or think about leaving).

I would guess that the club had to submit the list to the EFL by the 17th May deadline set by the EFL and the club have then chosen to keep us in the dark until today. |  |
