Will Still bringing his two brothers with him. 08:40 - May 22 with 1832 viewsGRIM

I'm finding the choice of Will Still even more interesting now that it's apparent that he intends to bring his two brothers to our club as his backroom staff.
I just hope that SR get this appointment right, it could be seriously damaging to our already in turmoil club.
Is he really joining us for the right reasons or is it just a convenient way of getting back to the UK lifestyle.

There is the issue of the health of his Sky Sports presenting missus, who lives over here and seems to have had a pretty rough time of things over the last couple of years.

I suspect we may have to pay Lens a fair bit to get all 3 of them released from their contracts.

Nick seemed to think Rusk and Lallana would be kept on, but I would have my doubts about this now.

We are not in the Prem any more; we cannot afford coaching staff we do not need.

So three of them on the payroll instead of just one?
What Saints really need is an experienced Championship manager with some success on the CV, and is hands on in training, tactics and man management.
What Saints don't need is possession based heavy metal played out from the back with no strikers, all planned out on Football Manager 24.

His brother Edward doesn't seem to last long anywhere so I doubt we'll see much of him here.

Edward Still

In September 2015, he became assistant of Croatian manager Ivan Leko, initially as video-analyst at Sint-Truiden,[1] but thereafter he followed Leko as assistant at Club Brugge.[3] When Leko was coach at Al Ain, Still went on to work as a project manager at Vlerick Business School and as an analyst on the RTBF football talk show La Tribune. In May 2020, Still rejoined Leko's staff at Antwerp,[4] then Shanghai Port in early 2021.[5]

Charleroi
In May 2021, Still returned from China to start his first job as lead manager at age 30, at Charleroi where he succeeded Karim Belhocine.[6] On his debut on 24 July on the first day of the Belgian Pro League season, he won 3–0 away to Oostende.[7]
On 22 October 2022, Still was sacked by Charleroi, having taken 16 points from a possible 42 at the start of his second season. His final result was a 4–1 loss at Cercle Brugge.[8]

Eupen
In November 2022, Still became the manager of Eupen, also in the top division.[9] After the 2022 FIFA World Cup, his debut was a late 1–0 win away to Seraing on 23 December.[10] He was sacked on 25 April after taking 12 points from a potential 51; his final two games were lost 5–1 at home to Zulte Waregem and 7–0 at Club Brugge.[11]

Kortrijk
Still began the 2023–24 season as manager of Kortrijk, and was the first manager sacked, on 25 September. He had won none and drawn two of his eight games.

It's hard to see what the attraction is of the Still brothers. Let's hope Sport Republic know what they're doing.

We've always been a family oriented club so this keeps up the tradition.
BUT, come on, this appointment gets crazier by the minute.
W'ed be better off giving the job to Adam Lallana, his credentials are better than all the Still's put together & he'd cost us nothing.

How many managers these days actually win anything other than minor trophies, Thomas Frank, zilch at any level, been brilliant for Brentford, I wonder who recruited him.

Enzo Maresca at Chelsea won the Championship last season, as is now being alleged by overspending.

Hurzeler at Brighton just the one second division title in Germany Potter just one Swedish cup win

Its all pot luck these days, unless you are one of the big clubs you have to try and find an up and coming young coach.

I'd prefer Vasco Matos with Fonte as his assistant. They are realistic targets.

But, if Sport Republic choose the Still brothers, they'll have my support and I hope they are successful here.

Whoever we get, we'll still need a proper centre forward to score 20+ goals next season. Ayoub El Kaabi would be ideal and he'd be well within our price range.

I dont think Lallana has any experience as a manager other than these last few games an a couple of games for Brighton, given that Rusk is already on the strength and we lost a couple of Juric's men when he left, adding Lallana and Still's two brothers should be fairly easy.

I've always thought that Fonte would be much better managerial material than Lallana. He's currently a player-coach in Portugal, but as he's in his forties, this should be his last season as a player and I'm sure he'd jump at the chance to be assistant manager here.

I would think he would rather go to West Ham, his wife's family are all big Hammers fans, he will surely put that loyalty first

Has Lallana ever managed a team to a draw against PSG?

Point taken.
But in his favour Lallana has played at the highest level, he's had numerous caps for England & he's played under some good Coaches.
I know that does not suggest he'll make a good Manager / Coach, but he would be no bigger risk than taking the Still family on.
In fact it's less risk because he'd cost us nothing.
SR are renowned for trying to be ultra clever and take on Coaches & players who have potential & look where it has got us.
I know other clubs have found young Coaches that have proved to be good, if we take Still then we've just got to hope that it works.

I think whoever we got in it was going to be a risk.

On the face of it, the safest options would appear to have been Dyche or Steve Cooper.

However, because we have this awful multi-club model (IMO the key cause of a lot of our problems), there is every chance Dyche or Cooper would have walked a month or two into the season in frustration at a significant proportion of the transfer budget being used for players who would then be loaned out to Goztepe to improve their team and keep Ankersen in favour in Turkey.

Will Still may well buy into the multi-club model. He may not. But I suspect he will be a lot more supportive of it than Dyche or Cooper would have been.

And given where we are, we probably have to just accept that.
