Betis on 09:45 - May 29 by Ghost_on_the_Westway | Shows how much attention I pay to anything above our league - I saw this thread and though, Hang on, didn’t Tottenham win what used to be the UEFA Cup, before they fcked that up, like they did the European Cup? I literally had to look this up. “Conference League”? European Ken Bates Full Members Cup, eh? Modern Football is Rubbish, exhibit 412. |
If they are going to have a third European tournament, why they don't they make it for the highest second tier club that doesn't get promoted? A sort of consolation prize to the losers of the play offs.
Betis on 14:28 - May 29 with 609 views | Bluce_Ree | I can't pretend to care that they won the FA Trophy of Europe but it pisses me off that no matter how shit Chelsea are, they still get silverware. If anything was proof that there is no God, it's them.
| Stefan Moore, Stefan Moore running down the wing. Stefan Moore, Stefan Moore running down the wing. He runs like a cheetah, his crosses couldn't be sweeter. Stefan Moore. Stefan Moore. Stefan Moore. |

Betis on 21:33 - May 28 by JamesB1979 | Cole Palmer. England have got some cracking players. Always makes me think of poor old Graham Taylor. Such a good man and had to deal with some rubbish England players. |
You are joking I take it? Taylor was the Pulis of his day.He had loads of good players to pick from but didn't know how to play them!

Anyone who thinks Graham Taylor was any good, I tell them to watch The Impossible Job. Just when you think you might have some sympathy, at least on a human level, with the bloke, you watch Carlton Fcking Palmer and Geoff Bleedin Thomas trot out onto the pitch in an England shirt and you lose it all immediately. It’s a great watch, though. It’s like Spinal Tap, or Anvil, but with unlikeable tw-ts in.

I dunno, he made some poor selections but also it was a team in transition post 1990. Of the promising younger players Gazza was often injured, Des Walker went off the boil after going to Italy. For whatever reason he didn't get the best from Lineker either.

My memory is hazy, but didn't Taylor play Andy Sinton at left back?

Watford were awful to watch under Taylor in the 1980s, it was all long ball stuff, the total anti football over the lovely stuff that Venables QPR played. But it was effective and got Taylor the Aston Villa job and then onto England, but Taylor struggled I think with better quality players and his lack of system and strategy as a top level football manager caught him out for an England team under Robson who were at a much better level than they had been for many years. Watching a Taylor Watford gave you neck ache from the ball being up in the air so long, although he did discover a gem in John Barnes.
