Sad news, read most of his books, gripping most of them.
RIP

Devil's Alternative definitely one of my favourites also, along with The Odessa.File and the Fourth Protocol ( plus Jackal of course). Fabulous writer.

I re-read Day of the Jackal last year and have read nobody else since - read one, then download another.
RIP, Sir.

Agreed plus I love the Dogs of War, apparently based on his time as a war correspondent.

The books were so much better than the films, and the films were good.
I just ordered the devils alternative again from Amazon.A bargain at £3.70.

Can't say I agreed with all of his views but he was a cracking thriller writer. Would put "The Fourth Protocol" and "Dogs of War" down as my favourites but whatever he wrote, it was engaging, well-dramatised and meticulously researched. RIP

RIP.

For my sins I've never read any of his books but will have to remedy that soon!

His son went to my junior school, I remember him turning up to one sports day looking very dapper.

I used to work with a retired ex flying squad officer who was the police contact for the real jackal in the 70s. He (the jackal) took half the money up front to off De Gaulle and then did a runner and had police protection here. When Freddy researched the story he met the said ex copper and they became friends and he used to go off and meet him for lunch in his London club every few months.
