Is he genuinely skint or is it one of those "administrative" bankruptcies?
More likely to be the former if it's HMRC he owes money to, but it's possible that he's trying to pull a fast one. |  |

I became a freelancer and immediately went to my old accountant mate to get me set up. He explained the rules.
I met a young lad on the same contract as me and his dad s mate did the accounts. He was oblivious to the need to put cash money aside and spent all his income as if tax had already been deducted as with PAYE.
As he took out all his earning he would have a hefty tax bill. We had a little chat after I told him a £20k tax bill was on its way and he a had better start saving . [Post edited 14 Jun 19:54]
