I don't do second city moaning but if there is cash for a Cardiff Central to Cardiff Bay tram there must be a strong argument for A Swansea west tram linking to the University Singleton hospital and the new St Helens.

As you would expect from the tired old sages on here, there was not much enthusiasm when I raised it last year.

Cardiff Bay already has a twain station linking to Queen Street Station. If you do not ask you do not get
The representatives of Swansea should be banging the door down.

Somebody should cost it up. It surely wouldn’t cost that much.
It would be a money maker.

They had a large public transport vehicle that ran a particular route linking both the hospitals, university, Morriston, The Ciounty Hall, Guildhall, city centre, stadium and St.Helens. It was the bendy bus and everyone hated it for clogging up the traffic.

Trams would be even worse.

After the changes in Mumbles and the recent Promenade flood improvements there is nowhere for a tram to go.

Exactly. Unless someone wants to shell out for an elevated system they'll have to go on the roads, which means chaos whilst they lay the rails, and chaos every time traffic is halted to let them through.

Trams are great if you've got big wide thoroughfares that can accommodate a wide variety of traffic, or if they're basically the only vehicle on the road, as they were the last time Swansea had a tram network.

Be a great idea to have a passenger railway between Swansea and Mumbles.
Surprised nobody has thought of it before, tbh ……

Exactly. There is no width on the mumbles road for a tram lane and West of Oystermouth it can't be widened. The traffic is horrendous now imagine a tram on the road. Would it be limited to 20mph

The beauty of the Mumbles Tram is that there is an existing pathway along the front where the old team was entirely separate from the car roadway. It is now a cycle / walkway

I cannot vouch for the whole length but there are still existing e converted railway stations and few obstructions. It could be used to link the two University campuses.

I'm not sure how it would get from one side of the river to the other unless there was a new bridge built. From there around past county Hall the pathway is very sketchy and would need extending over the beach. I can't see that going through planning with residential properties so close.

Remembering slightly the old Swansea ,you'd be surprised just how not only did the Mumbles train operate but alongside was the Victoria line , a link to an interesting film of one journey is attached

Way back in the day remember getting a train from Gorseinon to Blackpill pool on a day trip with my mates , think part of the stone link bridge can still be seen stuck in traffic jams trying to get into Mumbles .

I gave up visiting that area a few years ago because of the congestion and hassle .
Joes ice cream and Verdis have lost my custom now .

Any forward thinking planning to improve our tourism sector would be a NIMBY approach or a money making cash cow for traffic wardens and parking fees .

I used to travel often on the old Mumbles train as I lived on the route, I also went on the train north from Blackpill. Would I like a Mumbles tram back yes, will it happen no it's just not viable and practical. Mumbles has moved on from the village it was and become a busy commercial centre and the traffic issues with the massive residential developments over the 65 years since the last train make it only a pipe dream.
