You're the boss: What's your current thinking? 09:56 - Jun 29 with 3425 viewsPlanetHonneywood

You are Monsieur Julien. Nourry asks you for an indication of your preferred:

1. Starting formation.
2. Line-up, and
3. Where reinforcements are still needed.

Over to you...

We have four who defend, oui? Four who defend, one two three four like that, and six who attack. So. The six who attack, always you have one at the front and two at the sides, oui? So that leaves three more guys, and you know the formation from what guys you choose to be those three. You have two that stay and one that goes, you have a 4-2-3-1. One that stays and two that go, you have 4-1-4-1. All three that stay, 4-3-3. All three that go, 4-5-1, or you can call it 4-4-2 if one of the guys that goes says Forward on the squad list and gets paid too much, on hon hon.

I think we are okay pretty much everywhere, except for in he middle.

We have Varane and Field, but not got anyone else. Need someone who is really comfrotable on the ball and to get us playing.

I don't think Madsen or Morgan will be able to do it so I would like 1 more in there. I think we have enough cover to be fairly confident going into the season.

I am expecting more game time this season for fringe players like Bennie, Sutton.

I think it was mentioned Mbengue can also play DCM if required?

But yes we could use another one in there assuming that Colback is going; Hayden would be handy as mentioned.

Mbengue has played DCM once, nearly two years ago. Maybe he'd be great there but I think we need a new recruit to the squad for that position.

Agree with that. It's like saying we have Field who can cover at CB just because he has played there.

Okay as a final resort but shouldn't be building a team based around that.

4-1-4-1

Nardi
Dunne Morrison JCS Larkeche
Varanne
Poku Morgan. Madsen. Chair
Celar

Subs. Walsh. Mbengue. Field. Vale. Dembele. Kolli. Frey

Loans out - Lloyd, Bennie, Tuck, EDB.

This assumes Kelman will be sold otherwise I’d start with him up front. Madsen over Dembele in mf due to height, delivery at set pieces and a bit more defensive work!

Just a reminder….Field and Varane cannot play together.

Where has this ridiculous narrative come from?! Our great run last season from bottom to being considered a dark horse for the play offs was with Field, Varane, and Morgan in midfield. So Field and Varane can, quite successfully, play together. Our worst run of the season - the start - involved Madsen (and Andersen) playing in the centre.

Even our last win/game of the season up at Sunderland was Field and Varane together (playing well).

I've done some digging on our unknown quantity next season Harvey Vale and tallied up all the positions that he played for Chelsea last season.

LWB: 1
CM (8): 4
10: 2
RW: 2

Certainly a utility player and his versatility will be really useful for us. What surprised me was the amount of games in that 8 position, always in a double pivot with a DM. I shared the concern for our midfield depth but perhaps this additional option is kept in mind

8 Accross nine letters VALE TRIES: Versatile

Harvey certainly puts the VALE in 'versatile'.
