QPR grounds its Bluesky account on 22:50 - Jul 1 by HammersmithR | Makes sense. Most of the world use X. |
Except it doesn't. X has bled users and now is behind Reddit in terms of monthly users in the UK. QPR on twitter may have half a million followers, but engagement tops out at about 10k. There are so many dead accounts on there, and since Musk's acquisition is swamped with blue tick spam. This isn't a case for blue sky continuing, but the club should be planning for a no twitter world focusing on Insta, YouTube and Tiktok. The platform is rotting. Id also recommend people check out the championship sub Reddit. Is legitimately very funny

I found myself returning to twitter during all the "who's the manager" drama (my god what a cesspit that place is now) just because there was almost no QPR chat going on on Bluesky

Twitter has always punched above its weight in terms of influence. It's never come close to the number of ACTIVE users for FB, Insta etc. but has been accepted as social authority since Govts, brand, etc used it as a primary channel. With so many more channels its influence is diminished further and I'm not going back either.

I think it was when political journalists starting posting on there that it really took off as 'the world's town square', because politically engaged people could interact with them ( i.e. call Sebastian Payne a briefcase w@nker) and generally 'participate' in the political discourse. But the algorithm is so messed up now. I re-registered with a new account, following only a handful of non-political people, and yet my Home feed is totally dominated by Elon Musk and fellow right-wing conspiracy nuts, it's really striking what a propaganda machine it is.

god Seb Payne, what an absolute gimp. Had a decent enough career in journalism, threw it all in the bin to be rejected by, what, five? Tory constituencies, then his wife left him

While there is an inescapable dose of "right-wing conspiracy nuts" as you call them on X, there's a more than healthy amount of far-left conspiracy nuts on there too, so I find it balances itself out. Funnily enough, those far-left conspiracy nuts all announced they were leaving X back in November '24 but seem to have all flocked back to X for some reason. I tend to stick to entertainment and sports accounts only and tend to filter all the madness out, but even there you'll find outliers.

That may be the case about the relative demographics, but my point is that the algorithm that promotes content in to your feed is so aggressively skewed now. It's basically impossible to live a quiet life on there as far as i can see! | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Nah it's for people who think Elon Musk is a c**t who is trying to ruin the world. Think of it like this. Imagine if you were still on Facebook and it got bought out by Chelsea's owner and was now called Bluebook or something.
