Our dogs aren't really suitable, the Spaniel is too hyper and takes ages to calm down in other properties. Our Pointer is a lovely dog, calm and affectionate BUT, she doesn't like women. She's a rescue and while she's Ok with my wife, when out on walks she avoids women, will always go to me and kids for a fuss but rarely women.

Our last dog, my best mate forever, lost him in 2022, he would have been a brilliant therapy dog, he definitely saved my life!

Dogs are brilliant, a lot of humans don't deserve them.

Been doing it as few months and things getting hectic
I go to ten Care Homes and it's too many so cutting down
Ours is a three yr old Black Lab , full on and the most wonderful companion and just o credible with children
She's from working Yorkshire stock and her siblings spend their days on the Moors so needs lots of exercise , which she gets
Our trouble comes when she gets to water as she s not keen to get out
Local paper showed her swimming with cold water swimmers on Boxing Day with a open water swim club
Beautiful moment

We've just had a holiday abroad so now it's her turn and we're off to Northumberland to wind up the Geordies

We have two who would be ideal as therapy dogs and I have to say without them I wouldn't be here now ,my world.
Not sure what would be required or how to go about it but a fabulous idea.

Cheers I'll definitely look into it, it would be great t think that someone would gain pleasure from mine as I do .Not sure if I'd pass the assessment though 🤔

Go for it, Boundy,

We've got one (Tia) who comes in once a week to visit our Social and Emotional kids unit and they absoutely love it - as does the dog.

Places are cying out for them as they're so effective in regulating children who find it hard to do it for themselves.

Sounds like a great initiative, what does seeing the dog do for the children, does it calm them down put them at ease or something ?
Do they get to pat and walk the dog ?

Continually being banned by Planet Swans for Porthcawl and then being reinstated.

Ey eoop
We arranged our assessment at a cafe on the foreshore here
What I wasn't aware of was that the assessor watched from the Sandhills as we exercised her prior to the appt
Rather sly really
They are strict on dog NOT jumping up
They will fail immediately
They have to be given a treat without them snatching
They are many protocol rules but it's a worthy use of one's time
It keeps me off this site anyway

Ok again thanks , the older of the two is the most placid and I'd put my grandkids head in his mouth that's how loving he is , the younger one will snatch if I don't say "nice" so that maybe a problem , as much as I try she still will snatch this after 2.5 years .
I agree with all the comments that its a worth while venture ,dogs can only give unconditional love and pleasure so why not share it.

Cheers Gwyn ,having one grandson with needs I appreciated the effect it has had on him when he visits us .Dogs just love the fuss and attention and I imagine the children do enjoy your visits.
