Where is Juan??? 21:12 - Jul 8 with 1554 viewsShirtNumbers

Just to remind everyone, we signed a striker called Juan from Sau Paulo last summer and loaned him to Goztepe.

Our other Goztepe loan player, Matsuki, has returned and featured in a few media pieces from the club.

Anything on the whereabouts of Juan?? It would be nice to see how well our Goztepe players are doing, seeing that this multi club model is supposed to benefit us.

Who is Juan?

Is perhaps the pertinent question.

Juan - 8 goals in 28 appearances in Turkey

Edit -
Tall Paul, the year before - 17 goals in 25 appearances

So, Tall Paul scored at more than 2 times the rate that Juan did.

In the summer of 2023 Rory Delap was valued at £7 million and went on loan to Hull City and scored 8 goals in 31 appearances , not a great return but it earned him a move to Ipswich, he was linked with Saints but many including me, thought that £17 million was a bit steep for someone with a record that was fairly average.

Adam Armstrong scored 21 in the regular season, a much better record

Last season Delap scored 12 goals for Ipswich in the Premier League and Armstrong got 2 albeit in the first half of the season, before his loan move.

So comparing goals records isnt always a good indicator of a players ability.

Juan was playing for Goztepe who were a mid table side, and Tall Paul for Trabzonspor who were a top team, therefore more chances created.

Havent you literally just compared Edozie's stats with Ryan Frasers in your last article.

If you cant rip it up in Turkey you cant be very good. Plus he is not on our website thats a clear sign he is rubbish

Jaun played as second striker behind Romulus so actually not a bad return?

Goztepe and Trabzonspor are similar teams. Last season they finished 7th and 8th - basically identical. The season before, Trabzonspor finished 3rd but that was because they had Tall Paul banging in the goals for them. The season before that they finished 6th. So, Goztepe last season were at a very similar level to Trabzonspor.

You often quote goal scoring statistics yourself to make a point (e.g. Broja) so how come all of a sudden they don't matter? They do matter of course, but I'd agree they're not everything. One thing you have to take into account alongside the goals is, as you say, chances created. That's why Tall Paul's goal scoring record with us (which, again, you frequently quote) means nothing, because there were hardly any chances created for him.

I think Tall Paul and Juan's goal scoring record in Turkey does mean something. It means that if what we want is a centre forward banging in the goals in the Championship under a manager who likes crosses, then Tall Paul would be a better option than Juan, who wasn't even Goztepe's main goal scorer.

Juan, if we ever see him, is probably not a real centre forward. He's probably a utility forward like AA, Archer and Diaz. We've already got too many of them now we don't play tippy-tappy, so I think it's unlikely that he will add anything to our squad.

He scored 7 goals in 26 games in a league that Onuachu ripped apart

Göztepe's top scorer was their big Brazilian centre forward, Rômulo Cardoso. Obviously, they wouldn't let us have him.: he's good.

Bump.

According to that nerd MLG on SaintsWeb, this tweet is confirmation that Juan is staying on loan at Goztepe for another season.

Liam no ? Jaysus think Rory is a bit past it to be priced at 7M let alone 17M ?.

Rory (not Liam) was worth 7M just for his long throws, better than corners.
Imagine that Rory Delap taking a long throw with Tall Paul on the end of it, might not be pretty but would be pretty effective.
