Swansea City : It isn’t the end of the world, it happens all the time ! on 08:26 - Jul 24 with 1718 views | vetchonian | Yes its not the end of the world but for me the fact we threw so many youngsters on as the article says was a mistake. What use is that....surely it is better to see how certain youngsters fit alongside the "senior" players playing to the plan and system....questions there about someones thinking. Hopefully this will ground some of our fanbase who jabe been sure of automatic promotion or the playoffs. Not sayimg it couldnt happen but realistically despite the best window in a long while we still have some work to do....we are weak in defensive cover, and cover for midfield creativity and seem still to have no answer up front. Patience something we fans often lack is needed..as the squad gels and Sheehan continues on his leaening path...he is now a full time number 1 for the first time a liitle different to being no 2 or interim.

Personally I had no issue throwing youth players on. Yes it's one game, but it showed me they wasn't ready. Congreve for me was a real disappointment. A player who should be doing far better and was passing to knowone at times. I am one of those who still belive we can push to play offs but will struggle if we have Fulton sitting in defense. Starting line up is actually good on paper and add Cabango and Eom. But any injury and we are exposed. [Post edited 24 Jul 12:00]

Congreve, Cotterill and several others just are not good enough for the first team, let alone a club aspiring to better themselves.

Montague said they would be included in pre season and they have. Both are in the last year of their contracts, a parting of ways is the best for all concerned if they can find clubs. If we are ambitious as a club we have to be more ruthless with the u21s. If they show promise loan them out earlier and if they don't fulfill their promise let them go. Football is a hard game players need to be breaking into a championship team at 19/20, 21 at the very latest, these two I'm sorry to say didn't pull up trees in the lower leagues, to be first team ready for us they should have been a class above.

Appreciate academies are a long game and it’s much quicker to scout Widdells and Inoussas, but surely Category A is something we need to be considering for the longer term to supplement it. No-one breaks through anymore and I can’t help feel the latest generation haven’t had the opportunities the likes of Rodon, Roberts and Cabango did. The likes of Congreve, Cotterill, Wilson and Abdulai may well be in our first team or sold on for decent money if they’d been brought up playing competitive games against elite teams. I know this has been said before, but did anyone expect anything different when the 5 subs came on?

Agree but we are not Cat1, for the u21s to be competitive they need to go out on loan earlier. Get Cat1 back and the whole dimension changes. Currently the step up to the championship is to great for the players to bridge.

Thing is they aren’t ready for it when they go now. How many of our players have set league two or the national league alight? If we send them two years earlier, they’ll just drown. There has to be some way of developing our young players so they have a chance at first team football. Other than the likes of Abdulai, Parker and Govea dipping their toe in, it just doesn’t happen
