A big test I expect English football to fail. 12:03 - Jul 26 with 1542 viewsReslovenSwan1

https://www.theguardian.com/football/2025/jul/25/west-hams-lucas-paqueta-expecte

The EPL seems very soft on gambling. This is extremely worrying as the whole game is based on the games being legitimate. To be fair mid table teams usually give a decent account of themselves in games that count. This competitiveness must be preserved.

It is clear the spiv and crooks are around the game but there have not beeb many convictions. Bannings are usually for drugs and off field activities..

I have no faith in the EPL on this. I am still astonished the ex player got away with admitting it and continued in the media for some time.

Are you offended if so why.? It is not a derogatory word. It is slang for people from the east end. I know I worked there for 7 years. I have no problem being called Taff.

I avoid hypocrisy that is your problem perhaps? .

If Paqueta has been cleared of his gambling charges, then why has his value dropped to more than half of what City had pretty much agreed to?

It could be the hierarchy of their clubs believes he got lucky with the verdict and might think he would be high risk for £50m and could bring embarrassment to the club.

English football appear to be soft on gambling issues. One player admitted taking money for a scheme and was paid big money by Sky sports for years afterwards. It proved to me the English game had been infiltrated.

I was astonished to hear the ginger motormouth guy on
Talksport say no harm was done as it was for betting on the first touch.and did not affect the result . Like I said soft on match fixing. English football havs learned if you make it comic you will get off. A famous Liverpool goal keeper allegedly accidently saved a penalty as he could not get out of the way quickly enough. That goes back three decades.

Penalties missed by a few yards need examination.

I asked AI if there were any unusual betting patters related to Paqueta booking? It said this.

" Yes, there were unusual betting patterns around Lucas Paqueta's yellow cards that led to an FA investigation. The investigation centered on allegations that Paqueta intentionally received yellow cards in certain matches to profit betting syndicates. These syndicates, reportedly linked to Paqueta's associates in Brazil, placed bets on him receiving yellow cards in specific games.

Three Lucas Paqueta bookings are under scrutiny in FA ...
Specifically, the FA investigated betting patterns surrounding four Premier League matches between November 2022 and August 2023. The investigation revealed a surge in bets on Paqueta receiving yellow cards in these matches, with many bets originating from accounts linked to Paqueta Island, his birthplace."

He got booked four times. The family Paqueta placed large bets seemingly three times on him getting booked in a place called Paqueta Island. It sounds like a sketch on Blackadder.

Just a coincidence clearly.

I gave you the source. The readership can assess it for themselves. If they do not trust this source they can discount it. No AI edits just the inverted commas added. It seems it was a coincidence.

Artificial intelligence is for those who have none and lack the ability to think for themselves.

I accept the challenge and do some research on the reported facts. I sense the player is a very lucky man but perhaps he was just unlucky.

You need to understand the dangers of AI and the problems it will cause. Take this site as an example, use Google and it sends you a link to a specific site and the site gets a fee. Use AI even on a Google search and AI bypasses the website providing the information, no fee is involved. It could be the death of many websites actually providing the AI information and would be unstatainable. Keith's opinion on this would be interesting.
