Good man - poor leader vs bad man - allegedly good leader 10:15 - Jul 30 with 524 views | saint901 | There is a thread on Linkedin which compares Starmer and Trump. The gist is that Trump is leading the USA into a golden era of prosperity and freedom and is therefore a good leader whereas Starmer is overseeing a declining economy, riots on the streets and has no grip on immigration (which actually is a minor issue but one that is weaponised by people on the far right). The conclusion is that Trump is a "better" leader and that the UK would be lucky to have somebody of equal standing. The thread ignores the numerous convictions (34) Trump has, his bankruptcies, his use of his office to enrich himself and various other offences of greater or lesser weight. In short all those elements that make Trump a reprehensible human being are ignored because he is apparently ushering in this period of prosperity in the USA. (It ignores the fact that the last bill he signed will increase the US national debt by trillions of dollars and give tax breaks to the rich whilst withdrawing basic medical care for the poor.) Starmer may be boring. He may even by politically inept, weakened by divisions in his own party and too heavily reliant on people he has appointed and who frankly need to be moved on soon (Reeves). I think however nobody is accusing him of blatant corruption or sexual offences or stealing money. So, would you rather have a leader who is effective (at least for the moment - in the long term I think not) but is very visibly flawed as a human or one who is less obviously flawed but perhaps because of that is not prepared to ignore the law or basic human rights?
Good man - poor leader vs bad man - allegedly good leader on 10:31 - Jul 30 with 489 views | DorsetIan | At present it doesn't look like Labour is moving the dial on getting the economy moving. I also find their use of the terrorism act in relation to Palestine Action really sinister. But I think this country needs 'boring' after all the craziness that Brexit, Boris and Liz Trust brought - none of which, it seems to me, improved our day to day lives. And Starmer does seem to have navigated positioning the UK with good relations with both the EU and with Trump, and that is no mean feat.

Good man - poor leader vs bad man - allegedly good leader on 10:46 - Jul 30 with 464 views | saint901 | I think many European economies are struggling to grow, perhaps in part because Gov'ts are not prepared to be as ruthless as we see in the USA. Most European developed economies (and here I'm excluding the Eastern countries who I think are perhaps 20/30 years behind) have well developed welfare systems - and they are expensive. No politician is going to say that healthcare should be reduced because in five years' time the economy will benefit. I also think that the rise (and fall) of Boris (corrupt liar) and Truss (economic genius or incompetent fool?) has shown us some of the worst that could happen and therefore a period of boredom is welcome.

Good man - poor leader vs bad man - allegedly good leader on 16:55 - Jul 30 with 287 views | Heisenberg | No one knows what Starmer actually stands for. Including Starmer himself. He has shown himself to be a vindictive conniving liar who has betrayed Labours values. The party is now dominated by Starmer and his cronies. Any dissent is dealt with as lifelong supporters have been thrown out of the party. I know people who have spent their lives working for the party who are no longer welcome. In the early 2000s people protesting against the Iraq war were charged under terrorism laws for breaking into military bases. The defence argued it was an act of conscience and the charges were infringing on their human rights. The lawyer defending them was Human rights lawyer Kier Starmer. Now he is at the forefront of ensuring over 200 people being arrested for waving flags or holding placards. Starmer will destroy the Labour Party. He is a conniving back stabbing liar who along with Cooper and Streeting and the rest will lead the party to disaster at the next election.

In my humble opinion Starmer is an OK leader compared to the likes of Boris and Truss. I believe he had to get rid of the hard left Labourites who followed Corbin and helped the rise of the Tories. I also believe he has had to toady up to Trump to ensure the UK is treated 'reasonably' to dilute the Orange Man's tariff wars. I think he has done well in trying to repair relationships with European neighbours and attempting to put pressure on Netanyahu to dial down on the carnage in Gaza. Take your point on the Human Rights issue but being in that position is similar, I guess, to being a Defence Lawyer. On the reverse side Rachel Reeves policies affecting most businesses has not helped the economy.
