Slightly off topic from those goals, but I read the ‘owners update’ yesterday. A very positive communication, mainly talking about the transfer window and the new season.
But it did also say they had run an analysis on how many players were breaking through versus the cost involved in the last ten years and that they had begun early explorations around upgrading back to category one.
It didn’t promise it would happen and did kind of imply that it would be a long way off if it did, but very encouraging to see that it’s at least on the agenda.

Thing is his name has been mentioned last year and not getting on the bench and then game time instead we had players sitting on the bench, one because we didn't struggle in certain positions and two the manager wasn't prepared to use them because of percieved lack of ability or just not liked by the manager.
I would start the likes of Sam Parker to see if he develops from the off not slotted into a struggling team that is not functioning properly for nominal 10mins. | | | |

Sheehan's job security doesn't rely on a 20 year old who's not pulled up trees in the lower leagues being included on the bench for the 1sts imo.

Wilson is 21 in December. He should have at least one, preferably two full seasons out on loan under his belt by now.
We keep these players trapped in the youth setup for far too long. It delays and I think damages their development. There's no substitute for proper, competitive games. Any player at 17-18 we think has a hint of what it takes should be shopped out for loans. |  |

Agreed we are leaving it far to late to let players go out on loan, Ben Lloyd for example should have gone two years ago not Newport at 20 it's too late. Jacob Cook is 18 just signed a new contract and gone on loan to Connah's Quay, get game time there and hopefully EFL loan next season. It's the only way we are going to get players breaking into the team unless they are very lucky, the step up from the u21s is just to great. | | | |

The percentage of academy players who never go on to play a professional game certainly suggests that your first line is true. Your second line is precisely the problem that I think what I suggest will fix.
Players like him will become tougher and more aware of what they need to do playing game in, game out against proven professionals instead of mostly against kids their same age. Either that or they'll sink without trace. Either way we'll know if they're up to it by the time they hit 20. [Post edited 9 Aug 12:04]
