Been injured forever but seems to have been fit end of last season. So hes had a full pre-season.
He has a good track record in the championship yet hes stuck on the bench again.
I genuinely expected him to be one of the first names on the sheet this season.

I thought he’d be in the starting line up if he was fully fit.
One thing I did notice Saturday, I remained in the ground for a period of time after the game finished and he was being given an individual warm down well after our other players had stopped. I guess our medical team are managing him with great care after his problems and perhaps even if he is fit they are gradually going to introduce him to 90 minutes competitive football for fear of him getting crocked again |  |

He's too fragile and he's never shown he's good enough for us at this level. He moves like a doddery old man and doesn't offer enough to warrant a place in the team. The days when he scored 10 goals in the Championship were a long time ago before his injuries. He's 29 now and most of his career has been in the lower leagues in Scotland and here.
In the last 2½ years, since his achilles tendon injury, he's scored 1 goal. Even though he doesn't score goals, if he could run around it would help, but he can't. [Post edited 11 Aug 14:51]

Thought he looked decent against Arsenal in our last Prem game and got himself a goal.
I would have hoped to see him start too as Downs is still settling in and Arma is not a Centre forward. |  | | |

It would be great if we could exchange Armstrong, Brereton-Diaz, Archer, Downs and Stewart for a decent centre forward as we really need one.
Right now, Jay Robinson looks our only real goal threat up front.

Agreed. The problem with most of these players is that they're utility forwards who supposedly can fill in anywhere in the front line. But what that really means is that they're jack of all trades and master of none.
Centre Forward is a specialist position just as much as goalkeeper is. You wouldn't buy a goalkeeper because he could play a bit at right back too. He'd just be sh1t at both. It's the same with centre forwards, you need a specialist. | | | |

I thought we would start the Wrexham game with A Arm on the right of attack, Archer on the left and Steward through the middle, with Fraser, Robinson and Downs used from the bench.
The manager went for 3 CBs and 2 WBs because that was how we were set up for some of the games in pre-season, so that obviously affects how the reset of the team and tactics are chosen.
At least WS made changes early and it was great to see so many forward players on at the end, chasing a result - even if it was a defender that scored the winner !!
It was the first game. The season is long. There will be many opportunities for all players to stake their claims to a starter's shirt, so we shouldn't be writing anyone off just yet.
There is still a lot of deadwood to get rid of in this window and you never know, we may even be able to bring a couple of new signings in. I think someone said we were looking at loan or 2 as well. |  |

Is it only me who thinks Brereton-Diaz hasn't had a fair crack of the whip?
I recall Rylan playing him out wide when it seemed a better use of his size and aggression would be in the middle and up front? |  |

Our total combination of strikers is SO poor and offers little or no threat and in this league you need a hatful of goals from someone and I can’t see it
By all accounts Archer has looked good and scored pre season yet he didn’t start?!
