Was speaking to a passenger earlier today who was wearing a Co-op polo shirt asked if the get told about how it started and the Rochdale Pioneers he said that they don't.

'Only happy when you've got it often makes you miss the journey'
Poll: When Hendo goes should the number 40 shirt be retired?

No surprise, James

After interpreting your post, i'm guessing you gave him some info on how it all started but the fact is, Rochdale hides its light under a bushel

It's beginning to change however, and once the work being undertaken on the slopes between the town hall square and St Chads on the hill is completed, the space will become an incredible venue. With the Ogdens seeking their legacy with Dale and what it could become in terms of community and a positive vibe about both the club and the town, the Co-op is something that shows that even 180 years ago, there's something about this place that is unique and that continues through to this day

The default setting is "running the town down", even by Dale fans. I never want to hear the "We already know" response to "Rochdale's a shithole" ever again. In fact, it should be banned, because not only is the town no worse than many other places but the only thing that holds it back is that very mindset

I said it's would be good if staff knew the history a friend worked for them back in the late 90s and he said h learnt where it all started from originally maybe it boils down to bean counters.
Anyway I told the lad how it started in Rochdale and about the museum who knows my next time he sees the town mentioned he might say The Co-op started there you know

I remember when they first painted the railway bridge over Rochdale Bypass as you go past Sandbrook Park and it read :
Rochdale : Birthplace of the Coop šŸ“

I suspect most folks would have read that to think it referred to a chain of stores as opposed to a worldwide social movement. But I suppose there is only so much you can fit on a railway bridge.

Why is there no mention of the co-op on the platform signs at Rochdale station.
Only ā€˜The home of Kingsway business park’?
Why not ā€˜World capital of co-operatives’ or ā€˜Birthplace of the co-operative movement’?
I remember a ā€˜ World Capital of Co-operatives’ road sign at the Sudden side of the road just after the railway bridge. Seems to have disappeared now. šŸ™šŸ™

The all-important hyphen was later added, plenty of space on a bridge spanning a dual carriageway

You shouldn't question Mark like that.
