So in theory every week in the Championship you get to play teams of a similar level so the matches are competitive.
If we had to play a PL team every week you would hope we wouldn't be using much of our current squad otherwise it would be worse than Southampton's efforts last season.
I think the League cup has been successfully devalued now, so that most people understand its a Mickey Mouse thing and for a lot of the teams in it who might be a). aiming for Promotion or b). avoiding a relegation these extra games are an unwelcome distraction
I know its a trope, but didn't Wigan win the FA Cup and then get relegated?
Shall we ask a Wigan fan if that was the best thing for their club?"
I loved going to Wembley, but I'd rather we competed in the league than the league cup. FA Cup is a bit more special, but yes I'd rather we didn't get relegated. L1 could kill this club |
We don’t seem to agree so it’s best if we leave it there.
I just want my club to put out the strongest team possible and try to win every game,regardless of the opposition.

Clubs aren't deciding in round 1 whether to take the League Cup seriously. The optimal strategy as practiced by almost everyone is to treat the rounds up to the quarter-final as slightly more intense friendlies, and then start taking it seriously if by sheer luck you happen to win all your games and find yourself in the semis. |  | | |
