It would be cruel to play him against Chalton after that.

Ingram played the following game after the 7-1 humping at West Brom. We lost 3-0 at home to Bristol City though...

Right now, I expect lightning to strike twice.

For those who watched the game and not the highlights, Walsh is indeed responsible for a number of the goals

Take the second and third goals which are caused by dispossession in our defensive half

If you go back far enough you will seee Walsh holding on to ball way too long and making the pass out of the back to a defender under pressure. That indecision and slowness of thought invited Coventry’s press and started the cascade that led to the turnovers

In reality we shouldn’t be playing out the back w this keeper, so perhaps it’s harsh to blame Walsh. But if we play this style nardi is the guy

Two separate points
-if idea was to start Walsh this year why wasn’t he sent out on loan and given some experience. At 24 he has almost no game time under his belt
-it’s actually a disgrace that we made nardi play in Plymouth. Guy has been a solid pro for us and we make him the chaperone for the kids? Why disrespect him like that?

Agree 100%. Our diabolical playing it out from the back set the tone for the whole performance and Walsh was a part of that calamity. The moment we started playing ourselves into danger 10 yards out Cov just picked us off at will and there was no way back. It is an accident waiting to happen.

At long last we have a strike force with pace so need to go direct and not pussyfoot around with short passes round the defence.
Having watched the highlights I reckon a Parkes or a Seaman would have stopped four of the goals.

Walsh needed a 12-month loan to be playing regularly in league one or League two.

He's basically been a sitting on his backside for the past two years with no competitive football and certainly under no pressure.

Completely the clubs fault.

Still a good keeper in there but simply not ready for the championship yet.

Yep all on the club this one, piss poor management of a young player
We should have got a senior number 2 and loaned him out last year and this as we are doing with Mahoney

Mahoney would have been the perfect understudy to Nardi this season imo.

can say the same for Walsh but if we'd thrown Mahoney in as number 1 I think it would be similar. Especially if you ask him to be the playmaker from goalkicks.

My point was that Mahoney had had two years of competitive football now. He's ready (should be) to challenge the top spot or at least be a decent bank up.

Walsh desperately needed / needs game. time. His development is at least two years behind Mahoney.

Nardi is a seasoned Pro.

Silly decision by the club.

If he's the number 1 play him. Isn't this what the project is about? Results don't matter allegedly.

Only four? But I suppose they are in their 60s and 70s now.

It’s mental that we have decided to start with Walsh as our number 1 when he has barely played in any matches in his whole career. His only games for us have been in dead rubbers like Sunderland away last season. Murphy is doing well in League 1, but I think that’s his level. He’s not big enough for anything higher. I’m sure we can get some decent money for him. It’s incredible we have ended up in this situation.

You mean he's not *tall* enough for anything higher

Shit but local

It's a horrible situation. I remember the post-match interview he did -- ironically enough --away at Coventry at the end of 2023-24. He seemed a lovely young fella, full of positive energy and the joys of Spring. As others have said, if the plan here is to cultivate an 'asset', well we've absolute fcked that so far haven't we, and quite possibly his career in the short to mid-term.

If we drop him there is an implicit suggestion that he is not good enough, if we keep him in when his confidence is shot to pieces and he continues to struggle, his confidence will only get worse and the team suffers. There are no good options here, but if it were me making the call I would swap him out for Nardi on the basis that Nardi has more experience to cope with the current toxic situation, and is at least better suited to our cursed commitment to inviting the press (ridiculous in the circumstances). Hopefully Nardi is professional enough to see the situation with Walsh for what it is, and his being dropped until now won't affect his performances going forward.

We really do need some leadership at the back at the moment, and it doesn't appear to be coming from Cook or even Dunne at this point, the latter of whom I have a lot of affection for, but I don't think he provides the authoritative voice on the pitch that we need. That elbow at the weekend could yet land him in trouble.

Edit: As Loftboy has pointed out on the other thread, Dunne received a yellow card for it so cannot be retrospectively punished further.

Nardi should return, arguably he is better than Walsh.

Been mulling this over and I think the head coach has a bit of a problem here. Nardi as a compatriate cannot have been impressed to be dropped for Walsh, Maybe his stats should have been better but I can't help but remember the revolving door in front of him last season.

How have the rest of the squad reacted to this? Confused, annoyed, worried for to lose their place to politics?

As for Walsh, to drop him after a 7-1 risks splitting opinion and loyalties in the dressing room as well.

For me Cook is done, Mbengue should have started away at Cov yet he didn't and we conceeded 7

Whatever decision he makes, he damed if we lose and he probably loses more respect in the players eyes, or at least some of them.

Have a feeling this is a bigger decision that it would appear on the face of it.

I also have a feeling he really doesn't know how to use what we have effectively. I'm not convinced Julien did watch last seasons games.

Edit: To be clear I think its harder to bring Nardi back now, as it throws a hand grenade on the dressing room morale and risks adding to any already difficult situation. He would effectively be signalling it was CN's call in the first place.
