Watford 2-2 Saints.Same old same old, poor keeper and forwards who can’t score 17:10 - Aug 30 with 2897 views | saintmark1976 | Anybody who thinks that we are automatic promotion candidates need only look at today’s result. Ahead twice and left hanging on for a point against a team that will finish mid table at best. Five points from twelve from matches against Wrexham, Ipswich, Stoke and Watford isn’t even playoff form. How many times does it happen before Sports Republic realise that Bazunu isn’t good enough and you can’t continually rely upon defenders to score more goals than your forwards ? Watford 2-2 Saints.Same old same old, poor keeper and forwards who can’t score on 21:03 - Aug 30 by Southamptonfan | I get what you're saying. There doesn't seem to be any indication of what a Will Still team looks like. It's a bit of passing, a few long balls, the kitchen sink at the end of games, crosses into the box, a few long throws, basically a bit of everything. It's a bit chaotic, and the jury is still out on the manager. It's fair to say that he needs time to sort out the sh!t show from last season. But the doubts are creeping in. It is a bit worrying. We have some very good players that at the moment are struggling to won games. He is a very young inexperienced manager, and the pressure will build. It is expected that this club gets promotion this season. He seem a little bit weak, just says that the transfers happen upstairs. Perhaps he needs to put his foot down a bit more, but that's why he was brought in and not a manager that would be knocking on the chairman's door demanding a striker etc. [Post edited 30 Aug 21:20]

I can see slight changes in style & tactics where Still is concerned but the main issue untwined We havent replaced the core of poor personnel at the back or upfront from last year plus we persist with a back 5 And our keepers are poor Until they are changed for much better mistakes will be made and points lost

Fine margins. As many have said, you need a good goalkeeper and a goal scorer. Without them, we will lose points. This lot have not understood this for years.

With you 100% cocklebreath. The first goal yesterday was a carbon copy of Stoke’s second at St Mary’s last Saturday except that this time he was beaten by a shot from his left.Last week he got done in the same fashion from his right. Put simply, and as you correctly say, he once again got his angles wrong. For their second the T V showing the view of goal given to the free kick taker identifies that his positioning was completely wrong. He gave the taker two thirds of the goal to aim at and as long as he could get the ball passed the wall a goal was inevitable. Yes, it was a good free kick but in truth a poor one would have beaten him given where he was standing. In a way I feel sorry for him in that he’s doing his best, but as in some other jobs he’s a person promoted beyond his abilities. The difference is that they don’t have thousands of people watching them struggle in real time and even more on T V.

Watford 2-2 Saints.Same old same old, poor keeper and forwards who can’t score on 11:47 - Aug 31 with 450 views | blubberboy | Not much to choose between any side in this division. This time last season teams of Watford's standard would have been turning us over. I'm convinced that when our new players bed in we'll end up in the shake-up for play-off places. That said I would personally opt for McCarthy in goal as he does seem to be able to save shots. :-(
Watford 2-2 Saints.Same old same old, poor keeper and forwards who can’t score on 11:52 - Aug 31 with 435 views | jopreston | What has been happening at Saints is almost illogical. To have the same issues for so many years almost makes it seem that the main issue is behind the scenes. How can a club lurch from one defensive shitfest to another and from one striking shitfest to another, when you consider we have changed players, managers, coaching staff and even owners. It make no sense at all. Yes, I know we can buy the wrong players but in fact what seems to be the case to me is that we buyer players and make them shit. Something is wrong yet again, this time with Will Still. From what little I have seen so far, he has no specific tactic, no way of playing, no game plan. He seems to just set up hard to beat (which we are not), to work hard and grind something out and then hopefully to steal the points in the end by throwing on all our strikers at the same time. Sorry, but that is not tactical nous. I am not saying to get rid of him before anyone harps up. But I am saying that the signs are there of yet another manager who thinks he knows better and wants to try new cool, hippy ways of soccerball. We did the right thing this time and brought in some experienced first rate Championship players. What we need now is a normal style championship playbook. I just hope Will has one.
Watford 2-2 Saints.Same old same old, poor keeper and forwards who can’t score on 12:33 - Aug 31 with 404 views | RedandWight | Watford's strikers both looked excellent - fast, sharp and they knew where the goal was. Our strikers looked laboured although Azaz showed promise. I was still left feeling envious! Bazunu's positioning in goal is at best, dubious. He has been at fault for the goals conceded where the opposition striker shoots across him: leaving fat too big a gap for strikers to aim at. His positioning was poor for the albeit stunning, Watford free kick too.
Watford 2-2 Saints.Same old same old, poor keeper and forwards who can’t score on 12:46 - Aug 31 with 373 views | dirk_doone | I posted this on a Rate the Transfer Window thread: The 3 positions we most needed to strengthen were centre forward, centre half and goalkeeper. Will Still would have possibly told Sport Republic something similar. In response, they have signed Downs, Quarshie and Long. So far, those players don't appear to be strengthening the team much in those positions, if at all. Sport Republic like signing a lot of midfielders. They did the same last summer, but Jay Robinson already appears to be a better attacking midfielder than any we could buy, and the other midfielders we had already and the new ones all appear to be much of a muchness. We've got so many midfielders now that we'll probably have to get rid of a few of them next summer, including 1 or 2 we're signing now. I'll reserve judgement until after the Pompey game. That will tell us a lot about how good or bad this transfer window has been. But, it seems we are going to face them with the spine of our team weaker than ever. [Post edited 31 Aug 12:52]

"In response, they have signed Downs, Quarshie and Long." I don't think that can be right. Quarshie and Downs will have been in the works long before WS got here. WS would not have had any time to assess the squad or have any input on their signing, so he can't have been involved. They are also typical SR signings i.e. inexperienced youngsters. The thing that surprises me is that, now he has had time to assess the squad, WS doesn't seem interested in signing any players in the spine of the team. He's spoken about the need to sign wingers, midfielders and full backs - and we then signed them. But he's said nothing about GK, CB or CF, so they are obviously not his priority. If he felt we needed strengthening in these areas he'd be pushing for it, with loan signings at least. But he's given no indication that he's interested in doing that.

Stills probably gets a small input into what positions will be strengthened, but is a coach not a manager. Its Spors recruitment and on him. We have 3 goalkeepers, 6 at least 6 centre backs and 5 forwards. Why are they going to buy more in those areas?

"We have 3 goalkeepers, 6 at least 6 centre backs and 5 forwards. Why are they going to buy more in those areas?" Because many of them are utter shit?

The manager has a small input?? So, if you were a club owner you'd let your recruitment team buy, say new full backs when the manager didn't want any more full backs but wanted a new centre forward? In that case, I suggest you never buy a football club! The reality is that as far as first team players go, the manager tells the recruiters what he wants (but not necessarily who he wants) and the manager gets a veto on players he doesn't want. The recruiters have more of a free hand with fringe and youth players. I know someone who works in player recruitment and they say this is how it works - and it makes perfect sense. You ask why would they strengthen the spine? The answer is to get promotion. If we don't have what's needed for promotion we should go and get it. We've had plenty of time to offload the deadwood and we still do have time, but even if we don't do that we should still go and get what we need because deadwood is deadwood e.g. BBD.
