Hayden, Dunne, in-game management on the pitch. 08:06 - Aug 31 with 2003 views | FDC | Didn't see much (any?) of Hayden on the ball, but on the stream I did notice he was very vocal. Seemed to be urgently telling Dunne that players needed to be more focused, which seemed to lead to Dunne being quite animated with Madsen. I've mentioned it before, but: I have as much Jimmy-Love as the next red blooded heterosexual, but I'm not convinced he is a great captain at this stage. For one thing he seems prone to losing his head, which doesn't set a good example. He was shouting at Walsh about something at one point, but he seemed exasperated and fed up, which again didn't exactly project calm authority. I wonder whether Hayden may end up being the defacto captain. Depends on his availability and whether he starts regularly I guess Towards the end of the first half, when our bright start began to fade, I was looking at the team thinking we were entering a dangerous phase where it needed some experience and game smarts to see out the half, and there really wasn't a player on the pitch that I could see that coming from. Perhaps Field would have provided this, but even then Im not sure he's vocal enough. Cook is another obvious candidate, but I don't see him being a regular starter this season. It's a side to his game that Varane will hopefully develop over time if he is to become a top player. [Post edited 31 Aug 8:11]

Hayden, Dunne, in-game management on the pitch. on 08:15 - Aug 31 with 1901 views | Tonto | Having more than one leader on the pitch is usually a good thing. Yes one of the reasons we brought Hayden back is his leadership. Cook is also good here, i.e. they are good communicators) but in footballl the "captain" doesnt hold the same weight as it does in other sports (cricket being the most obvious). So i would say dont over analyse it. [Post edited 31 Aug 8:42]

Hayden, Dunne, in-game management on the pitch. on 08:32 - Aug 31 with 1780 views | QPR_Jim | I think Dunne is a good organiser, one example from yesterday was when we were attacking with Smyth coming across to take a long throw from the right wing. The throw in ended with the keeper and Dunne was up to get the flick on, so Campbell pulled into the left wing with Dunne absent to receive a quick pass from the keeper. The keeper looked like he was shaping up to release it to Campbell and at the same time Smyth thought he needed to get back onto the left wing and in position but Dunne stopped him and got him to mark Campbell while he was getting back, which completely stopped the Charlton attack before it started. Not sure if that's just good communication that you'd expect from an experienced defender or leadership but it was good to see. | | | |
