The sorry tale of not 1, not 2, but 3 I-pads (a cry for help) 17:28 - Sep 10 with 1081 viewsRangersDave3

Hi guys,

About 8 weeks ago I dropped my I pad pro of 10 or more years.
The drop broke the screen, although it was still useable.
I tried to add everything to ‘the cloud’ but couldn’t do it……..

So….. I gave up on it, and purchased a new I pad (not pro) and started the beastie up.
First problem, even though I used my e mail addy, my phone number etc, and passed those ‘must haves’, it wouldn’t port anything through from the I cloud, no books, movies, 1000 songs etc.

Occasionally it will tell me I can unlock stuff, like my films or shows, but it asks me for my addy, and phone number etc, and it takes them, and tells me I will get a message in 1 day up to 12 days telling me how to do it etc.

So, I’m in stasis, I’ve paid, I’ve given apple my info to unlock my stuff a few times (you have to unlock various bits at a time apparently)

But at the moment, Apple have had my money, and basically given me a brick to play with.

I’m hoping that I can get some advise please, as apple just ain’t cutting the mustard, and I need access to my stuff.

Fingers crossed here.
best to all
Dave

What's the ios on the old ipad? I think they both need to be 11 if you go for a transfer over either wifi or cabled via a computer.

I bought 2 new iPods one each for me and the lady wife. Transferred all the stuff from my old iPad to the new one no bother but I tried everything as you did just couldn’t get it to transfer from my wife’s old iPad to the new one.
The reason was as Sonic points out the old iPad has to be iOS 11 at least or it’s all gonna be manual
Not good news but at least you can stop wasting your time.

Make an appointment at the Apple genius bar. Having purchased a new device they will help you out for free I believe.

Yes get yourself up to Regents Street and make an appointment (go armed with receipt for new device and the old one).

Prepare to wait.
And also prepare to be spoken to by someone who you've probably got underpants older than, who will have weird piercings, oddly coloured hair and who will talk to you in a language you are not familiar with and cock their head sideways and give you condescending looks that say "you're not that far off needing to be in a secure home are you?????"
They are bloody good at what they do though.
B'stards.

Cherish and enjoy life.... this ain't no dress rehearsal

What amount of iCloud Storage do you have on the old device? Has it ever completed a backup?

My old iPhone refused to back up even though it swore blind I had the space for it.

Alternatively try an Apple 'specialist' as others have suggested.

You probably have to back the old one up onto a laptop/hard drive then restore on to the new one from that

Apple shop should be able to sort you out

I bought a new I-Pad for the Missus from the John Lewis store, the bloke who served us was about Seven years old and he managed to convince us both that all of the data and crap on the Wifes old I-Pad would transfer over to the new one easily,
He spent a while telling us how to do It and we left the store In a state of confusion.
That night we attempted to move the data over and we failed miserably, next day we tried again and failed miserably.
We then thought about contacting the Apple help desk but gave up on that, the Mrs struggled on with the old I-Pad and we then had a eureka moment, the Mrs forgot to switch both I-Pads off one night and hey presto the following morning the new I-Pad had eaten the old I-Pads entire content and everything had transferred over by Itself.

I hate this IT stuff passionately and I do not trust the bloody thing.

If the old iPad is still working and you have a PC plug it into the PC download iTunes do a manual back up to iTunes and transfer all the files onto your PC. Then plug new iPad into the PC, If you have a Mac you do this via the Apple Music app which replaced iTunes.

You can also access icloud via the web and manually download files from there if you have backups or its been in use
