Going back to the original point, in many cases debtors can be tracked down and made to pay their arrears via the installation of pre pay meters where they have to buy their energy in advance because the unit price that they pay can be increased so that a small amount is used to pay back their arrears every time they top up.
In terms of our energy prices, net zero accounts for around 12% of the average annual bill which equates to around £200 per year and it’s been the same since around 2021. In terms of energy generation, Governments have sat on their hands for a long time and we’ve had many reports of a lack of planning and action to ensure supply meets demand in the future. I’m not overl6 happy about paying 12% extra, but it’s not as though it’s 50% higher.
What really grips me is we’re paying wind turbine owners to switch their machines off to “balance” the grid - wind turbine machine owners also turn their machines off which causes more gas to be used - I mean what’s all that about. The energy market needs a real shake up. There are definite advantages about a transition to clean renewable energy because fossil fuels are just going to increase in price, but it has to be done on a sensible pragmatic basis. | | | |
