Is he taking the pi55? He’s out of Stanmore originally, is he a fan ? And does he pay like us?

The youngsters seem to love it more than ever and attendances are breaking records all over the place.

It's an interesting one. For me it literally changes game to game. Just on QPR alone, loved the game against Stoke, while SW bored me to tears. So not so much about 'style' for me but 'quality'. If you can't accurately pass the bloody ball five yards, then that is going to put me off. But that would have been the case just as much with Gerry Francis as it would be with Jimmy Dunne. As for the younger generation, I'm guessing XG's and what not, float their boat, but really not a clue.

It does feel like it has become more formulaic (no) thanks to Pep and the army of data analysts every club seems to have these days. Hopefully there is a bit of a revolt against that coming through, even with our own Julien adopting a 442.

I thought that a lot of the football of my earlier years was either rank long-ball or boring offsides and pass-backs.

The style Julien is adopting is based on more data analytics than we have ever used previously. in fact, more direct football is the latest analytics trend, we have just jumped on it a bit sooner than some others and seem to have built a squad for it

There's a lot of rose-tinted glasses going on about football in the old days - the pass back rule to the keeper is a great example. The "legendary" Liverpool team of the 80s would get a goal (or wait for the ref to give them a penalty if it was taking too long) and then spend the rest of the game passing it a triangle between Hansen/Hysen/Lawrenson/Gillespie etc and Grobelaar. Was boring as hell, so many terrible games to watch. Changing that rule changed football completely

I remember my dad moaning about the quality of football a lot when he took me in the 90s, which is now the time a lot of us look back at fondly. As Doug Stanhope said: "The good old days; it was good because you were young but you act like it was the day. No, youth is good. That's gone. You're fvcked."
