The place with the most fatalities is Carmarthenshire, a rural county that maybe has fewer 20mph or maybemore 50-60mph country roads.

Not entirely surprised.

Some of the joining roads on the route west especially around Bancyfelin and Red Roses are a lottery of chance. You basically have farm tracks trying to join dual carriageways often from the opposite side with restricted vision. It's risky at best.

I’m not sure that it has fewer 20mph speed limits tbh, I travel extensively throughout Carmarthenshire and from what I can see they have really gone to town with the 20mph speed limit, they’ve been over zealous with their application of the guidance, even after we’ve had the revised criteria for 20mph limits they’ve only increased the limit in 4 places.

The A48 is a very busy road and it’s the main artery for vehicles traveling into and from West Wales. Go Safe have a number of speed enforcement sites along the A48 and they seem to be there with their vans all the time, one of the main issues with the A48 and is that a lot of the entrance and exit points are minor roads and lanes and people don’t judge the speed of approaching traffic very well, entering a 70mph road from a standstill can be tricky. It doesn’t help that the road wasn’t designed to carry the level of traffic that it does, the roundabout at Pont Abraham is very busy and wasn’t designed to deal with the number of cars that it does hence the traffic lights. The roundabout at Cross Hands is an absolute nightmare, there are 6 different entrance points and the lane lay out is awful, there are always collisions here.
The A40 between Carmarthen and St Clears has a couple of nasty cross overs and the Meidrim turn off is an accident black spot.

The WG need to close off some of the cross overs and entrances (like they did at Cwmgwili) because they are just too dangerous.

It’s doesn’t help that there’s not a lot of public transport in the rural areas. I know that some of the older drivers living in the rural areas wouldn’t be driving if they lived in towns - I spoke to be woman last year who was as blind as a bat and she shouldn’t have been anywhere near a car, a farmer mate of mine had to speak to the police on the qt to get them to deal with a relative who wouldn’t stop driving because they were so concerned. In the country quite a few people feel they don’t have a choice other than to drive because if they don’t drive they are cut off.

Drink and drug drive is also an issue.

I agree about the joining cross over roads, it’s nerve racking approaching them especially when a vehicle has entered the half way crossing section.

Are the roads dangerous or do they just have a load of dangerous drivers? The number of people i see on these rural roads thinking they’re Colin Mccrae. The bikers are the worst.

M4 Junction at Ynysforgan is still a keep your wits about you a potential accident hotspot .

Drive it most days on errands but what a nightmare to negotiate with pathetic directions .

Sure the lorry drivers coming in West bound to Swansea can speak and understand Welsh sign posts and road markings , sat nav is still the go to answer to all now .

I avoid that route whenever I can .
