The last Col U hat-trick in the league at home? I remember Cureton's away at Southend of course .. (which I'd like to see again if anyone has the link) ..

Chris Iwelumo against Hull

Simon Lowe against Stockport and Tony English against Torquay both did it in the same season .

Cureton must have done it.

Poll: No half measure either 1 or 2 ?

We had a similar debate at HT about the last U’s first half hat- trick.

U’s historian Graeson Laitt suggested Tony Adcock in the EFL (or its equivalent) and (earlier) Big Roy in the Conference.

I'm pretty sure Scott McGleish's was a second half hat-trick at Northampton?

A Colchester United player actually scored a hat trick of headers before half time ( quite a while back ).

Jevani Brown, against Stevenage in November 2020. In lockdowns. Won 3-1.

Last one with fans in the stadium, Kurtis Guthrie against Carlisle in Jan 2017. Won 4-1.

Payne’s treble, scored before the interval, also made him the first Colchester player to record a first-half Football League hat-trick since Simon Lowe against Stockport County on 6th March 1987 at Layer Road.

Forgot to mention - it was his debut too!

It's a very rare feat for a non striker to score three goals before half time in the EFL.

It should be recalled that two Colchester United forwards once scored four goals each in a match at Layer Road in the old Division 4.

He certainly did Wessex, the perfect one , header right and left foot.
The Autowindscreen competition me thinks.

I think the player you are mentioning is Ted Phillips. A good fast bowler for Colchester and East Essex as well.
