All the head contacts have done invisible damage that only manifests itself years later. Gpotta feel sorry for the guy, it is an awful disease. Good luck Lewis, and to your family.

Maybe a step back needs to be taken in sports like Rugby or the NFL. Try to get rid of the "macho" image they've had for years, start putting maximum size limits on players instead of encouraging bigger and bigger people to play the game. Reducing the levels of impact and potential head knocks.
| Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back. |

Lewis Moody was a fabulous fearless player, he played with power and pace, but its shocking to see that he's now suffering from this horrendous disease. Massive head collisions need to be avoided, but rugby being the game it is, is always gonna have times when it those collisions happen, I've not heard of any boxers having suffered this disease there probably have been cases I expect, but I don't recall hearing or reading anything.

My Mother passed away from a disease on the similar specdrum as MND called Progressive Supranuclear Palsy [PSP] that was horrendous, lost all use of her limbs and even her tongue muscles just wasted away horrendous, she virtually starved and dehydrated to death, I hope I never see anyone suffer like that again.

Interesting article. Seems to be a lot of conflicting info out there and divided medical opinion. This one cites a study carried out in Glasgow that contradicts the ESPN chap. Who to believe though? https://www.express.co.uk/sport/rugby-union/2117686/Rugby-MND-Lewis-Moody-diagno There does seem to be a link between contact sport and neurodegenerative diseases. My late father played professional football in the 50's/60s era, heading wet heavy leather footballs in matches and in training and getting concussed and taking heavy blows to the head was part and parcel of the game back then. He developed Parkinsons in the 1990s and eventually dementia. The Parkinsons specialist said he treated a disproportionate amount of ex-footballers and rugby players. This was around the time the Jeff Astle case was getting headlines. My mother wrote to the FA but they didn't want to know. Thankfully Astle's tenacious widow via the Justice for Jeff campaign won through in the end with the help of sports journalists and it's now widely accepted that repeated head trauma is a form of industrial injury with many ex-players from those years having brain injuries similar to those found in boxers. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/50124102
