Was it as good as many of us thought. Last Saturday only two of the starting 11 were not with us last season, Burgess and Stamenic both excellent signings in my opinion. I know it takes time to integrate players but many were with us very early in the window. Widell came in the previous window but was loaned back so was here for pre season and doesn't seem to feature. Galbraith for me is the pick of the crop and I would say was our best buy. Santos has been injured do we can't judge. Wales doesn't feature and Farman is back up to the back up. Idah the jury is still out as far as I'm concerned. Inoussa and Yalcouye are very talented but again not utilised much. Casey and Samuels-Smith look to be bench players and cover for injuries and Benson blows hot and cold in the little game time he has had. So I ask the question has our recruitment department performed well or flattered to decieve.

I said at the start of the season let's see where we are after 10 games, that's Southampton away next up. We then have two home games and we will be on 15 league games at the next international break. At that point we really need to be showing some positive consistency. If we are not questions need to be asked regarding the squad and coaching staff.

The reality is, he has a vastly superior squad to any of his predecessors and will be judged accordingly. I would temper that by saying it must be very difficult to work with that many new players at once.

Our owners will see this season as an opportunity. There will be plenty of clubs thinking they could be in the mix and we will be one of them. If they were looking for a consolidation season, they wouldn’t have beefed the squad up so much in one window.

The thing that confuses me is he did better last season with a threadbare squad. I don’t know if that means he had a period way above his usual (like Martins run before he went back to losing) or whether he is a very good manager and this season hasn’t quite clicked yet.

My current thinking on Sheehan is. When he didn't have the options life was simple for him and he made the best of what he had, plus he had the experience of Allen and Naughton to close games out. Now he has options and has to get the best permutation to get results plus we lack genuine experience. The recruitment team have to accept that the best players don't necessarily make the best team. We have gone mostly with youth and no Championship experience. It's all well good number crunching but there is a place also for good old fashion scouting.

Unfortunately, if you’re right, he’s not going to satisfy our owners longer term. They are more ambitious than wanting a manager to get a tune out of a patched up squad. They are going to want someone who can challenge when he’s heavily backed.

I don’t really agree with you on the window, I haven’t seen one new player who wouldn’t have started plenty of games for us last season. The quality and depth has increased significantly. That’s not including the like of Widdell, Wales and Samuel’s-Smith who haven’t really had a chance yet.

I do agree the best players don’t make the best team. He has to get the midfield firing and our best individuals are all defensively minded. Difficult to work out who to leave out. Different problem to the one he solved brilliantly last season.

I think that type of hybrid midfielder/striker will be important to us going forward. It may not be Cullen, it may be Widdell or a new player, but I think we need that type starting games.

I’d see Cullen as more of a second half substitute when we’re chasing the game, but even Saturday, when he didn’t have his best game, he made Vipotniks job much easier.

Finding space is easier when the defenders have also got to look out for someone drifting in behind you.

Pressing is much easier when you’re taking it in turns and when you’re the one pressing aggressively, you’ve got a teammate cutting off the easiest pass out of danger. Playing around a lone striker is pretty simple.

Not suggesting Cullen is the player, but I think we need someone who can do that role.

A Joel Piroe type who can play both as a #10 and upfront if required?

Yes, I can get behind that idea.

Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back.

Yes, absolutely.

I’d never go 442, but someone who can make Vipotniks job a lot easier without leaving us overrun in midfield. I’m hoping Widdell can eventually do it, I know he was touted as box to box, but he’s looked a lot more attack minded in the few minutes he’s had.

I think it was a good transfer window, far better than in previous years. We look like we have two players competing for most positions.

But the quality and the tactics seem miles apart. Where's the aggression and relentless pressing/closing that wears teams down? The number of times we allow opposing players time to pick crosses is criminal. Players need to come off "empty" only to be replaced by another with the same style.

Just my opinion of course...
