There are still some who are daft enough to think he did nothing wrong, some of those still flounce around the club trying to curry favour with the new regime. It's what they do. Individuals who were nowhere to be seen when the club needed saving by the likes of Simon Gauge and the new Directors/Fans/Trust/ the mob and the so called toxic five. They would do well to speak to Simon Gauge and the other Directors who had to come in and pick up the pieces following Bottomleys time at the club and also fight off Morton House, individuals who he was quite happy to see take over the club he purported to love. I think the club is still trying to recover from the mismanagement during that era. I'm going to give him credit though for holding up his hands and pleading guilty to the above charges, when somebody does that they admit that what they did was wrong.

It wasn't just Bottomley though, the other Directors were as bad, they just left him to get on with things and run the ship single handedly and they all originally wanted to sell their shares to MH. Bottomley's painted out as the bad guy but in my eyes the lot of them were to blame. It's covenient for those serving on the board at the time to now heap all the blame on David Bottomley, the reality is they were all p*ssing in the same pot and some of the story's that have emerged about how they conducted themselves away from the football side are a disgrace. Horrible people who deserve zero respect. Thank god we now have people of good morals in charge of the club.

He initially filed a defence, subsequently changing his plea 2 months later.

His Hasbro price fixing instigator admittance should have prepared him (para.35 Decision of Director General of Fair Trading CA98/18/2002)

It certainly should...all in the public domain. Court proceedings and matters of misconduct etc often are for public consumption and local journalists and media outlets report on them all the time. It's never been any different. The Rochdale Observer and Manchester Evening News used to have a journalist in attendance at local Magistrates and the Crown Courts on a daily basis and publish the details in their newspapers, they still do. The cases heard at Crown Court are deemed the most serious cases and as a result they are often reported on in the larger newspaper publications such as the MEN.

Some great points as always TS, but I wouldn't give him any credit for anything, as I think Judd alludes to id imagine he only pleaded 'guilty' when it became apparent he was bang to rights, you usually get directed to a 'guilty' plea purely in the hope of a softer outcome.

I think there are still a few who are taken in by his manipulative personality and look on him as a victim, somebody who was misunderstood and a victim of circumstances. I mentioned his guilty plea again to highlight that he did actually admit his guilt, he didn't deny it. You are right about the guilty plea being advised in order to land a softer outcome. That's also a regular occurence for criminal cases that are heard at Crown Court level. Criminal cases are escalated to Crown Court level because they are deemed too serious to be heard in a Magistrates Court. No case that ends up at Crown Court is a minor issue or a oversight.
