I saw this question raised recently (apologies if it's already been done on here) and I think it's certainly one of the toughest music questions around. Favourite band, song and album questions are often asked and we've all got our own answers pretty much ready, but what about if you could only ever listen to one group or artist from now on, who would it be and why? There's alot to take into account as the final answer may not be your favourite band or be the group of your favourite album. IMO, you need to take into account longevity and consistency because you want to listen to as many quality songs as possible and also bear in mind which band/songs evoke the best memories. I am no music oficianado by any stretch of the imagination, I've enjoyed plenty of everything over the years and my final choice probably reflects the fact I've been out of the country for over a decade and as such I'm in a musical time warp but my final choice would have to be Queen. Why? For me 15 years of great music, varying in sound and style over that period with many, many classics many of which evoke good memories and of good times. Lots of quality live material available as well and just what I would call "Good Mood" music which would be another reason for choosing them if I could only ever listen to one group.
So if you could only listen to one group or artist from now on who would it be and why?

It has to be the Beatles for me. I wonder how many current acts will still have their stuff played and enjoyed in 50 years time.
For me, it's gotta be the Wynne family band AKA Ozric Tentacles.
Ambient, dub, prog, hard rock: They serve it all.

Bloody Hell, it's turned into a Queen debate! So to continue in that vein, I'm actually surprised to read so many who actually dislike Queen. It's obviously all about opinions but I'd guess most of the dislikers could only quote their later offerings and none of their early stuff outside of the popular singles. Personally, they aren't my favourite band and would hardly register in a Top 10 of favourite singles or albums but for longevity, range and emotive reasons they'd be my choice. So to all the Queen dislikers
And to think that at one stage U2 were in the reckoning...
1980-85 Abysmal apart from 'Hammer to fall' and 'Flash' 1986-91 ok some blinding tracks 92- Not good but when using unreleased stuff mostly it was unreleased for a reason.
Love this album: Queen II

If it had to be one rock/pop act ten it would be a toss up between Led Zep and Radiohead. But, for eternity, it would have to be classical music - Beethoven or Mozart.
As for Queen, I find I like them less and less. Overblown pomposity trumps all other good qualities. IMHO.

Bet I'm the only one to say La Fania All Stars... Kind of cheating because in one group you have a majority of the salsa greats: Hector Lavoe, Celia Cruz, Willie Colon, Richie Ray etc etc

Easy question.
depeche Mode....1980 til present.....33 years.
Good answer! I was listening to Depeche Mode just yesterday. Quality stuff but they do fall into the all too familiar category of great 80's band that then went into decline through the following years, just like The Cure, The Cult, U2 etc. Oh and Queen!
And ShotKneesHoop, you're not playing by the rules. It's one and one only.
John Lee hooker, he'll I could spend the rest of my life just being in a room with the hook listening to the great man just talking the blues. When he picked up his old Sheraton and sat down with just a small amp plugged in and started tapping his foot, singing and playing he was everything the blues should be he also had a beautiful voice, the sort of voice that would make you listen. Religious people go on pilgrimages so I went to Clarksdale Mississippi the birthplace of JLH and I I stood on John Lee,s Street trying to take it all in. Try his song "No Shoes" or Tupelo Mississippi or "Serves Me Right To Suffer" Forget shredding. Try Son House too. Have mercy people, have mercy.

In order of greatness and quality from 1963 to 2003
1. Al Kooper 2. The Beatles 3. The Doors. 4. Bob Dylan. 5. Van Morrison 6. Tim Hardin 7. Frank Zappa 8. Steamhammer 9. Cream 10. Morrisey
After 2003? - Absolutely nothing worth listening to,
A bit like the way football's gone over the same time period.
Shot old son, don't be so dismissive
I'm getting on a bit but for my money I put Arctic Monkeys & LCD Soundsystem in my favourite bands list alongside anyone from the 60s-90s
Shame LCD finished when they did (tho in many ways that can be a blessing) but still a great catalogue....whilst the AMs have the potential to create a seriously diverse catalogue if they keep developing as they are
I will also put a word in for the Clash - with a double & triple album in their canon and a load of B sides and live / alternate / remixed versions they could keep you going for a good few years without getting boring
