 | News Comment | Southampton At Blackburn Rovers The Verdict at 09:55:23
"Alex McCarthy seems to have developed a goalkeeping style that does not involve using his hands" lol He is one of the worst professional goalkeepers I have ever seen. His reflexes are slow, his positioning is terrible and, above all, he lacks the bravery required to be a goalkeeper. It's no surprise he has cost us countless points over they years. We probably would have won and at least drawn this game and many others if we'd had even an average Championship goalkeeper. |
 | News Comment | Juventus Said To Be Interested In Southampton Sporting Director at 22:16:03
Newcastle were 'said to be interested in him' before he turned up here. Maybe his agent is trying to dupe a Serie B club into taking him now. It's not something Juventus would publicise. We should start a rumour that Man City are said to be interested in Damion Downs. |
 | News Comment | Southampton Sign Goalkeeper at 18:55:18
Just when you thought Sport Republic's recruitment couldn't get any worse, they go and siign the worst goalkeeper in professional football. These comments from Norwich fans sum up just how bad he is: "George Long The worst keeper I’ve ever seen in yellow and green" "Beyond inept. He's clearly way out of his depth." "Never want to see him in a Norwich shirt again," "He wouldn't have made sub in my under 10's team" |
 | News Comment | Bazunu Faces Uncertain Saints Future Even After Man Of The Match Performance at 11:54:24
McCarthy has shown how bad he is over many years and he's getting worse. We really need to get rid of him now. We can't take the risk him playing for us ever again. Bazunu is much younger and in this pre-season there is evidence that, even though he has previously looked almost as bad as McCarthy, he's improving. So, I'd keep Bazunu as backup, but we need a reliable first choice goalkeeper. Ramsdale is ideal, but if he's sold, we'll need to buy a replacement. |
 | News Comment | Southampton Publish Retained List at 19:29:59
BigbadBarry, the release of McCarthy and Smallbone would have an impact: a huge sense of relief that we'd finally got rid of them. |
 | News Comment | Southampton V Manchester City The Verdict at 11:22:49
Great defensive organisation, team work and fighting spirit. That photo of Stephens and Bednarek stopping Haaland sums it up. Whenever a City player threatened to break through, 2 Saints players immediately blocked him. They did it to Doku about 20 times and, try as he might, De Bruyne could never find an unmarked City forward in Saints' penalty area. Saints' fans played their part too, roaring the team on. |
 | News Comment | Newcastle United At Southampton In Pictures Part 1 at 13:44:13
My first ever Saints game was v Newcastle at the Dell in 1963. We won 2-0 with goals from O'Brien and Kirby, who gave the Newcastle centre half, John McGrath, later to become a Saints stalwart, a hard time. In those days, a lot of Sotonians had Geordie ancestry, from the dock workers, including my grandfather, who moved down here for work in the 1930s, so it was a special game. I'll be at St Mary's tomorrow, hoping for another win. |
 | News Comment | Sulemana To Stay At Southampton ! Amo-Ameyaw To Go Out On Loan at 14:16:41
I've seen Amo-Ameyaw play a few times and he's always looked good. He combines especially well with Tyler Dibling. He really deserves to start a few league games for us before the end of the season or he'll end up following the same route out of here as Nathen Tella so that another club benefits from his talent. Hopefully, Juric will give him a chance here. |
 | News Comment | Sulemana To Stay At Southampton ! Amo-Ameyaw To Go Out On Loan at 09:56:55
Amo-Ameyaw could be the next Nathan Tella. We could loan him out to a Championship club, where he will undoubtedly do well, then sell him to a top European club, where he will win trophies. Another successful Southampton product. Job done. |
 | News Comment | Southampton FC Chairman Stepping Down at 13:58:10
This sounds like good news. Hopefully, it will be a change for the better. I've certainly not given up hope on the owners or the new manager. The win against Swansea was the first indication that Juric is starting to make an impact with his team selection and tactics. |
