I’ve walked and ran walked past the Crown so many times during Lockdown often making a diversion to do so. Each time it sparked off a flash of nostalgia and a wish for the place to be soon full of Rangers again having the craic. I’d generally be there in the sunshine at the beginning and end of the season. To me Gerry had that gentle giant vibe (like an Irish Phil Parkes). I’d say in his day he could handle himself. Hands like shovels. A top landlord. RIP

Although my pre-match pub of choice is the White Horse, often popped into the C&S after night games especially. There was a tremendous vibe there and as others have said, even though the queue at the bar might've been three deep you were served promptly and with a smile. RIP.

No, been in there about eight years maybe? Was certainly there for the last promotion season.
OK cheers. It was my regular back in the day and the landlord was a tall mild mannered Irishman and his wife, but I thought it was Mick. Not used it that much since as it gets too rammed. RIP Gerry

Always had a friendly hello for my friends and I. I was in there one time after a game & it also happened to be my birthday. He noticed & gave me a complimentary beverage - a very 'strong' rum and coke! Will have one on my return & toast it to Gerry.

Ah no.........
Proper old school guv'nor. Always making sure people third in queue were served right and proper and a good stand up fella.
My utmost condolences to his friends, family and staff.
RIP big fella
As you said Col he was a Top Guvnor and very focused on his customers..you were with me for the Brum Game in Feb when Olivia managed to drop her tablet underneath the decking in the garden. After I spent 10 minutes telling her off and working out if I could retrieve it I went and asked Gerry if he could help...quickly and with no moaning he told me to pop in after the game and it would be behind the bar.True to his word it was, leaving me calmer & less irate and a very happy 9 year old.

just walked past the c a s, flowers outside both entrances, a sad site and one nobody would have expected. Gerry was probably early 60's but still young by todays standards. still can't believe it, just hope it wasn't the stress of the pub being shut that caused the heart attack. again RIP.
Sad to hear the news about Gerry. Condolences to his family. Usually found ourselves in there at least three or four times a year. Friendly staff, great atmosphere. A proper pub. He will be sadly missed. RIP.
