Just in time for Halloween 🎃
Favourite horror movies? I do love a good zombie movie but off the top of my head the ones below are all great.

Alien
The Babadook
The Wailing
Evil Dead (original)
Hellraiser
It Follows
Drag Me To Hell

Aliens
The thing(1981)
Event Horizon.
Scary the first time. Then watch it again and look around and see what you missed. Brilliant film.

Controversial perhaps but I really don't get Horror movies in general. They don't scare me, never have.

Surprised not to see The Vanishing mentioned yet.

So not a film, but watched the first episode of Marianne last night, from 2019. French language, genuinely had me on edge for the whole hour. Worth checking out if horror is your bag. I'd also recommend watching it without seeing the trailer, which gives away some of the best moments in the first episode.

I have a little claim to fame in this genre in that I wrote the short story that got bought to then create the film Event Horizon. It paid for me and my then soon to be wife to get married in France (she was French), put a hefty downpayment on a flat in Highgate and a decent car. I sold the rights so was uncredited.

I did a similar thing when I wrote another short story that eventually got turned into the film Bad Santa (also uncredited). That one paid for my divorce!

Good Lord, I must've missed this first time around. I love Event Horizon!

Is there any truth to the urban legend that it was partially inspired by the Warhammer 40,000 universe? A lot of the fanbase seem to think it is.

Does the Wicker Man qualify as horror? The ending was terrifying.

Has the added bonus of Ingrid Pitt in the bath!

I mentioned it in the other film thread, but Africa Addio is horrific in the most real sense.

Quite controversial that film! Got a damning review by Roger Ebert

(I've not seen it myself though)

The Four Year Plan

Yeah but that had a happy ending. It’s what’s happened since that’s the horror story.

Well yes, you can only watch it and judge for yourself.

Just a small factoid. I actually wrote the short story that eventually became Event Horizon.

Never knowingly right.

Re the Warhammer 40,000 universe myth? The film may be so, I don't know. The original short story was essentially a mix of Dante's Inferno set in space and another very short story I wrote called The Bad Halo, which I have always kept as part of my email address.

Never knowingly right.
