The CBS (ex-Ricoh) Arena, getting to and from 18:00 - Feb 8 with 1843 viewseastside_r

by Public Transport?

Another new stadium for me on this season’s odyssey. I can see why I have avoided this one before because it looks an absolute ball-ache.

Is it (still?) true that the Coventry Arena station is shut immediately before and after games? If not, given there is only an hourly service, what chance is there of actually getting on one of these trains?

I am more than happy to use buses (pleb that I am) but even this looks tricky.

The CCFC website (un)helpfully states ‘Please note that after the game, crowd control measures will be in place to segregate home and away supporters. This means that away fans will be unable to turn left outside of the stadium towards the Arena Shopping Park.’ Whatever that means?!

Any advice / pointers received with much thanks. I am in no particular hurry because I am staying in the city centre (i.e. not traveling back to London that night.)

Cheers.

Think the bus from outside Spoons (forget the name but R's manager) in centre took about half an hour and drops down the road from stadium
Can do the reverse after, but was pretty rammed so we swerved and had a couple in Coventry's on site casino until crowds died down

We've always got a taxi, is a really long walk
if you wait near Tescos outside ground they usually stop there after a game or you can order an uber

Sometimes they do a bus back to the statiom for away fans but we haven't managed to get on it the last few visits

Last year they sent us the wrong way round from the away end,but my car was parked up by the motorway so I had to walk through all the home supporters too,but it was generally good natured.I’m not sure about getting back to the city centre after the game though.

Always a faff. Last year I walked directly forward from the exit towards and past some retail park and over a bridge for about 10 mins. Ordered a cab from there and it was quick back to the city.

But yeah dire ground. The casino is good.

Thanks All.I am keeping my options open.

Has anyone managed to successfully travel via the ‘Arena’ train station or is that definitely a no-no?

I just looked at booking train tickets from the arena station to Coventry on Tuesday night and there are 3 trains after the game.Times are 21.50,22.50 and 23.40 and it takes 8 mins.

Back home now.Shame we couldn’t hold out for 1 more minute, but that’s the way it goes sometimes. If only Frey had scored from that one on one.

FFR we got a £6 train from Marylebone to Leamington, had a lovely afternoon pub and restaurant crawling around there, 25 min empty train straight to the ground for about £3. So we'll be doing that again.

Afterwards pre-booked taxi app to the big, empty, unused taxi rank down in the south east corner behind the death star Tesco. Guy was waiting there for us, back at the station by 2215, beers/bleach load up at the Sainsburys, made the 2240 and back in London in time for the last tubes.

It's taken us 20 years, but I think we finally cracked this shthole.

We parked up in Longford and it was a 10 minute stroll to the ground via Dhillons brewery for a beer and some great food.Virtually straight back out on to the motorway again rather than stuck in all that traffic we walked past waiting to get out on the main road.
