Sport Republic Can Be A Big Success For Southampton Says Spors on 10:18 - Mar 21 with 911 viewssaintwizzler

We’ve got a pub and some fanzones.
Who cares if we’re going to be the worst team in Premier League history and on course to concede 100 goals.

2 relegations in 3 seasons speaks volumes.

I’d be more concerned about staying in The Championship next season before any thoughts of promotion after this summer’s firesale then relying on loans and free transfers AGAIN.

We thought that we had the answers, It was the questions we had wrong.

Exactly this, we have had over decade of saying the club are focusing on commercial and marketing value. Guess what its not improved.
We have also had decades of signing "ones for the future" and the future never comes. We have long lost the ability to spot a rough diamond and turn them into a first teamer. We have signed dozens of non league youths and i would bet Andy Townsend was our last success.

Poll: Has the Ross Stewart deal already paid off as Nick says?

Actuallly we have not had over a decade of the club focussing on commercial and marketing, we had several seasons under Gao were we could not invest in Marketing etc.

Our ability to spot one for the future is not long lost, Tyler Dibling has broken through this season, Nathan Tella in the last few years, Sam Amo Ameyaw is being sold for £10 million if the option is taken up and Jimmy Jay Morgan was poached from us by Chelsea and we have scouted the likes of Tino Livramento, Romeo Lavia, Shea Charles & Charley Alcatraz, all youngsters bought in fairly cheaply and developed.

Perhaps Andy Townsend was our last non league success, or perhaps he wasn't as Jason Dodd came after him from Bath and there may be a couple more, but that is the case for most Premier League clubs these days, it is not a Southampton thing.

The difficulty Saints have is that Chelsea can also recruit in our area and have an academy down here, hence the likes of Levi Colwill who was scouted by Chelsea at the age of 8 in 2011.

It is easy to be glib about Saints recruitment, but the big clubs get there first and offer a lot of inducements and have done for almost 20 years now

Just like I've got absolutely no interest in hearing that Juric wants to stay next season, I couldn't care less that Sport Republic's latest appointee thinks that Sport Republic and their model are going to be great.

Seriously, wtf else is he going to say: 'I think there are some important things to sort out at senior management level - clearing out a few duff decision makers, that sort of thing - and obviously the strategy in relation to on the pitch matters needs to changes radically - started with the appointment of an effective manager and the recruitment of decent players - but other than that, I'm really looking forward to getting stuck in to my new role'.

Fine words butter no parsnips.

The proof of the pudding is in the eating.

Let's judge Mr Spors by the effect, if any, he has on our fortunes.

Poll: Should we try to replace Selles for the final seven games?

Have to agree with what you’ve posted here.

He’s not going to say the multi - club model is a load of shlt is he.

Sport republic can also not be a success , just like they haven’t been for bout 75% of the time they’ve been here.

Ralph Kruger came in, in 2014. He main goal was to improve commercial potential and get the Southampton brand known round the world. So this has been the clubs mantra for a good decade. The thing is, unless you have success the rest of the world dosent want to know.

Sam Amo Ameyaw cost approx £5mill and we are selling him potentially for 8 mill or 10mill in euros. By the time wages, Ni, pension loyalty bonuses and agent fees, there wont be much of a profit. Story is on the daily echo if you want to check it out.

How did we develop Charlie Alcatraz? By not giving him game time and forcing him out the door? Shea Charles honestly hes not been good enough for 2 years. Maybe when he comes back from his loan who knows?

Southamptons have signed 50 "ones for the future" over the last 6 years......... When does the future kick in?

Daillo, KWP, Salisu, Che Adams, Dnepo, Tommy Scott, Dynel Simeu, Tino, Thierry Small, Nico Lawrence, Baz , Lavia, Mara, Edozie, Larios, Jak Stewart, Alcaraz, sulemana, Derrick Abu, Josh McNamara, Shea Charles, Zak Awe, Joe O'Brien-Whitmarsh Megalorn, Sammy Amo, Ronnie Edwards, Nathan Wood, Khiani Shombe, Brook Myers, Kuryu Matsuki, Romeo Akachukwu, Mateus Fernandes , Baylee Dipepa, Sam Tabares, Juan, aouda Traoré, Wellington, joachim Kayi Sanda, Victor Udoh, Rento Takaoka

i forgot Jason Dodd shame on me

Some of the players above were youngsters signed cheaply , Sam Amo ameyaw turned down Spurs at 16 and joined Saints, at the same time so did Jayden Meghoma, at the time it was reported that we paid Spurs £1 million compensation for the pair of them.

Meghoma wa signed by Brentford for around £5 million back in August, he made 1 appearance in the PL as a sub totalling 4 mins, he was loaned to Preston in January, been in the squad 11 times, completed 90 mins just twice from 9 appearances.

Back in the 1960's- 2000's the Southampton way was simple, find players cheaply and develop them, but in many respects the results were fairly similar to today, perhaps every 3 years you would get a player who would establish themselves as 1st team regulars, if you were lucky it would be 2.

Most of the rest would play a few games, but never truly be first team regulars and leave.

We would also buy in players from the lower leagues, sometimes it paid off and sometimes it didn't, everyone remembers Kevin Keegan signed in 1980, few people remember Mike McCartney,.

That was the Southampton Way and indeed for most clubs, for every successful signing there are 3 that don't make it, they play a few games and then get sold on.

Look at any clubs U21 side and few graduate to be a major star at the club.

The main thing even back in the 1960/70's was that the system had to pay it's way.

It is doing that now, look at that list below and we have sold players for somewhere between £175-220 million and some of them could well yet come good, Ronnie Edwards for example & Charles & Welington in the Championship next season.

Add another £30 million when Fernades & Sulemana go.

50 players over 6 years is an average of 8 a season, of that number I would say that around 12 have been successes, ie still in first team contention, sold for a profit or like KWP & Adams got our monies worth, plus several who might yet still make it, such as Edozie, Larios & Welington.

That is similar numbers to most times in our History apart from the Golden period in the late 80's when we had Shearer, Le Tiz etc

Man recruited on lucrative contract in “not labelling them hapless fools who have invested in players and managers like drunken sailors over the last 3 years” shocker.

https://mhv.dailyecho.co.uk/sport/24903660.southampton-reach-agreement-transfer-

Meghoma and Amo cost 10mill when we signed them according to the echo. When players get a 10/15% signing on fees, penisons payments, wages, NI, agent fees, no doubt neither asked for a move so loyalty bonus- i bet we break even on those 2.

How do you define monies worth on Adams as he walked away on a free. I expect the life time of his contract and transfer fee was at least 23 mill. He was a big part of the fall from Grace. I would say you could be harsh and say the same on KWP. His first couple seasons he was great and should have been sold, but the last 3 seasons he hasnt been great. Hes still a good player but will at best move to a Palace type club.

Success is surely a profit - none of them are signed with the idea that they are going to spend their whole careers at the club.

So for me the success of Lavia, Tino, some how Mara, Alcaraz, and Fernandes, maybe it allows the model to cover the over 45 but its unlikely.
