An extra 70,000 flights a year from Luton.

It's a climate emergency you see.

The Welsh Government. Turning down money on things we do need like the M4 relief road, spaffing it away on things we don't, like the airport in Barry.

Central London to London Stansted Airport 36 miles.

Central Swansea to CWL Rhoose 41 miles.

You are being parochial. It is practically Swansea s airport.

Plus if you live in Wales east of the tunnels Bristol is often quicker.

I flew into Bristol from Dublin Friday afternoon landed at 1300; it took me close to 3 hours to get from Magor to Pencoed.

The Welsh government is not fit for purpose; nobody will invest in Wales, & tourists will spend their money elsewhere unless a relief road is built.

This is exactly why English tourists have cut down on weekends in West Wales.

Friday afternoon is the worst time to commute everywhere. You know the old adage.Build a new road and it fills up pretty quick. It is reasonable to assume even with the new road Friday afternoon will be a slog.

I expect there are flights to Dublin from Rhoose.

It is a particularly Welsh thing that we refuse to pay for our own services to save money. Londoners do not have that problem. It is a British rule. Anything outside London is a waste of money.

London has a cable car costing £75 m that crosses the Thames ( for the Olympics) which no one uses.

The airport website says this - "The business already facilitates more than 4,000 jobs in Wales, by ensuring safe and secure Airport operations at Cardiff and St Athan Airports."

It is 41 mile from Swansea folks. Reject second city syndrome.

I was in Benalmadena two weeks ago and got chatting to a couple from Devon. When they were looking for flights they could have flown from Exeter or Bristol but decided instead to fly from Newquay. The population of Newquay is 25,000.

So people in the West Country have three airports to choose from whereas we have one. With a South Wales population of about 2 million. And it appears many on this forum don't want even that one to exist.

I don't understand why.

Newquay Airport receives £6m a year in subsidy. If I was a Cornish taxpayer I'd want it shut down if it couldn't afford to pay for itself.

It's a 90 minute drive from Newquay to Exeter. Plenty close enough to not need it.

It is not so easy. South Yorkshire folk will take any help they can get with alternatives much closer than Swansea to Barry. Wales has to compete. Some Swansea fans are old and weak minded and just want to roll over and surrender.

The underperformance has been going on for years and years. There are thousands of provincial airports around the World and there will be know how to sort out a problem like this, the problem we have is jumped up local councillors trying to turn around a commercial undertaking.
Nobody gets sacked if the airport isn't sorted out.

HMG backing Doncaster Airport. CWL is far more important.

As I mentioned, it was a business trip, and there were no outbound flights from Cardiff. Maybe I should’ve asked my boss if he’d mind me flying out a day early and having a bit of a session to make up for Cardiff Airport!

Also, I personally wouldn’t call 2pm on a Friday “rush hour'

I don't think many don't want an a Welsh airport, what we don't e want is for us to pay for it , it should be self funding

I wouldn't care whether there was one or not if it didn't soak up tens of millions a year in subsidies.

You would happily shut it down force south Walians to travel to Bristol and beyond in their hundreds of thousands and put 4000 jobs at risk in a developing sector with perhaps 1000 certain to go with associated redundancy and possible benefits claims due.

All this while HM Government is supporting Doncaster which is close to other airports within 1 hour.

Everything outside London is subsidised.. It is no fault of individual but the way the State is set up. HM Government does not like investing outside the M25.

A new WAG if they cannot grow it can give that job to professional businesses.

I would say more South Walians already fly from Bristol Airport than Cardiff. 2024 Bristol Airport over 8 million passengers Cardiff Airport 881,000. They are already flocking there in their hundreds of thousands. Personally I have flown from Cardiff once in about 10 years and probably over 20 from Bristol, 10 or more from Gatwick/Heathrow and another half a dozen from Birmingham. Why you may ask, because the other Airports fly to destinations I want to go at a price I am prepared to pay and a time that suits me. If Cardiff provided a service I require I would use it but it doesn't.

There really must be a more underlying problem if Easyjet and RyanAir avoid Rhoose .

Landing fees will play a big part but the catchment area and potential numbers available in Bristol will always favour that site over CWL .

Long term no real future for Cardiff Airport for me it appears .

WAG will bang on again about major investment and another low cost airline coming in offering a few token gesture flights to decent but obscure destinations .

Cut price landing charges a lesser Operator will calculate using Cardiff at their profit gain .

The big budget carriers will keep to their hubs and know there is the money maker for us .

Perhaps you should pay more, travel somewhere you don't want to go, and do it at an inconvenient time — all to keep Rhoose Airport open.

Apparently, that's what it takes to be a true Welshman.

As I say i it often depends where you want to go and what day you want to fly. Cardiff just doesn't provide me with options I require and I will not change my departure airport to Cardiff to have an inferior holiday.

That’s fair enough, if you want to go to a certain location and there are no flights there from Cardiff you have to fly from elsewhere. Likewise there are many destinations that Bristol doesn’t facilitate so you have to fly from airports like Heathrow and Gatwick.

As I said in the post that you replied, I use Heathrow/Gatwick and Birmingham for those departures. People are quite prepared to travel to airports to have the flight/holiday they wish. The Senedd have to accept that unless Cardiff improves what it offers it will need to be continually subsidised, how much more of our money will they waste on something a minority of Welsh people use.
