Can This Be The Dawning Of A New Era At Southampton FC on 10:01 - Apr 8 with 1308 views | DorsetIan | What, please, are Spors's highlights in terms of inspired recruiting or other contributions to onfield success at other clubs? In short, is there any reason to think that he is any good? - particularly as he has been appointed by Solak which hasn't, historically, been a good sign.

Can This Be The Dawning Of A New Era At Southampton FC on 12:59 - Apr 8 with 1044 views | Southamptonfan | Sport Republic have to get it right, with promotion back to the PL. If we fail, or struggle, and recruit badly, the knives will be our for them. However, the likelihood is that with the parachute money, we will be better than most other championship clubs, and should be there or thereabouts again next season. We will likely win games again, and likely to be near the top, bringing the feel good factor back. But it won't be easy. We will need to completely change the team. [Post edited 8 Apr 13:01]

We will be better off than most, the football financial expert on 5 live was suggesting that in recent years, promotion/relegation between the Premier & the Championship has a trampolene effect with the same clubs up and down because of having the parachute payments etc and the difficulty on gambling on spending big when you get promoted. I would disagree about needing an entire new team, we still have the foundations of the side that went up. Bazunu, Manning, Bednarek, Smallbone, Downes, Fraser, Edozie, Bree, Charles & Armstrong were all big parts of promotion last season and will probably still be here next, add the likes of Nathan Wood, Charlie Taylor, Ronnie Edwards, Cameron Archer, all proven at this level and a few perhaps not so nailed on such as Aribo, Welington, Ross Stewart, Juan Larios , even Dom Ballard and that is the foundations of a side that can compete, rake in a few bob from the transfers of Ramsdale, Dibling & Fernandes and a few smaller deals Onauchu & Sulemana & we can buy 2 or 3 quality players plus a loan signing or two and we should be better placed than most

How many players did we buy last time? 2. Stewart and Charles. The rest were loans and free transfers. It worked. Just.

I agree. I think 2 relegations in 3 years for Sport Republic is a dreadful record, but it seems like they aren't going anywhere. Like most fans, I can just about accept them if they get it right next season with promotion and then stay up, having learnt from their mistakes. Otherwise, as I said, it will be last chance for them before fans give up on them. They have made mistake after mistake, so I am not sure they will learn , but I suspect we will be okay in the championship. We will receive a lot of money for Dibling as you say. I would welcome Adam Armstrong coming back. Not sure Downes will stay. There will be a lot of upheaval though and not sure about Fraser, Charles, Manning being what we need. They are just average in my opinion, with very little game time in the last year. [Post edited 8 Apr 13:24]

Then what capitulation in The Premier League again? Unless they spend a fortune like the Forest owner has and take the punishment we’ll be down by Easter again.

Totally agree. But, is there a slight, tiny chance that next time, they might realise from this year's disaster, that they will need to buy more athletic, better players or we will be straight back down?

He was around when Hamburg got relegated for the first time in their entire history. At least we’ve already got that out of the way.
