66 points would probably only put us about 3 or 4 points short of the playoffs.

Very frustrating.

If only the owners read this forum and had pulled the trigger when the majority of posters on here were begging for him to go after the Sheffield United debacle and the 5-0 loss to Norwich. We'd have had another 12pts to play for and who knows what could have happened. That said.... Going up this year would do us no favours whatsoever, let's get 4 or 5 in next year and bud a squad not only capable of going up but also give us the foundations to stay up if we do.

The way the Premier League is now if we were ever to go up we would be odds on to come straight back down. If the opportunity is ever there just take it.

We’d have got less points than Derby did. They way I see it we are building nicely to a great pre season and with Widell added to the mic who knows. I’d like to get Delacroix on a permanent as Burnley probably wouldn’t want him if promoted.

And that was the case the last time we got to the Prem. Few expected us to do as well as we did.

This whole "we're not ready" nonsense does my Swede in. People used to claim with straight faces that they were glad we didn't win the playoff final in 2006 because we'd have come straight back down.

Eejits.

To be fair the standard seems a lot higher now than it was then and we were quite well equipped with the style of play Brendan gave us. And the money gap between rich and poor seems much greater.

We had a better squad back then, along with a stable financial position and were riding the crest of a wave in how we played. We were better equipped to stay up then than we would be if we went up this season. But if Sheehan (assuming it's him) carries on in this vein next year we could go up and with more strengthening make more of a fist of staying up (with the right backing). I'm one of those who will stand up and say that we're not currently ready for the Premier League. Idiot or not!

Even if what people are saying is true, there are no downsides to being promoted ASAP. As long as the finances are controlled we'd be in the driving seat for automatic promotion back, which is exactly where Jenkins screwed up so badly the last time.

If we wait for everything to be perfect then it won't happen.

Fair point. But I'd much rather see us playing competitively next year and enjoying the football than being handed our backsides to us every week. Maybe short term thinking and the financial windfall if invested back into the club correctly could really benefit us long term.... But I just want to enjoy going to games again as I have been the last month rather than the dross served up last couple of years. Just one season to build... That's all I ask!

I could accept losing every week as long as I knew the team was doing the best it could to win games instead of losing them because a halfwit manager decided that this was the only way that we can play.

Seen altogether too much of that since 2021.

I agree with this.

When we talk about this i'm reminded of one of our PL seasons when Burnley were the whipping boys and we were okay. When they were struggling instead of throwing mad money at it they spent just £12 million (just ) on Chris Wood. They effectively accepted the reality of relegation but didn't gamble with the club's finances.

The result of that was that they were able to hold on to the bulk of their PL squad with the para payments and got back up the following season (or maybe the one after).

And then sold Chris Wood for £25 million after he was instrumental in getting them back up. Now that was a brilliant deal.

Also that means that they enjoyed being in the PL (as much as you can when getting relegated) and then really enjoyed being back in the championship because they were so competitive and up the top virtually all season. What's not to like.

PL top table is the place to be
Saying different is just to make folk feel better about not being there
For a modest club like ours, strutting our stuff at the Plastics Palaces was memorable
We kicked arse for a good three years and need to understand that
We had some respect too
We are fondly remembered in my neck of the woods by both LFC and the Blues,I think the only"big" club we didn't beat
Happy days

Burnley have always been a frugal club, starts from the bob lord days.

Their new Mormon American owners are the same as they too are very clever with money.

It would be interesting if they stayed down for more than 3 years though 😉

We definitely beat the Blues of Everton on at least one occasion in the PL. Something tells me the only ‘Big Boy’ we failed to triumph over was Spurs.

I think the closest we came in the Premier League was the draw when Kane scored the own goal. But who can forget the cup game all those years ago.

Then there was that game in 2017 under Clement. 1-0 up with two minutes to go, & we know what happened after that

Bobby Bullshitter was still in charge of them at the time.

But which of the clubs was the more recent to win a major trophy, I know what I would prefer and I bet their supporters would swap.

And that’s the one which hurt the most! The one I’ll never forget though was the 0-2 defeat at The Liberty on 2/1/18 when Alli scored late on… the last Swans match I watched with my Dad before he passed away 😞

Yes absolutely. But their fans are like a PL version of Cardiffs, self entitled and arrogant. I’d loved to have beaten them
