Legal clarity at last, at least in the UK for the time being. No doubt this leaves quite a lot of tidying of law and regulations for the devolved administrations to do. What strikes me is that there may still be issues at the international level, if different countries end up with different legal definitions of what a woman is.

We are told that "trans women" pose no risk, but there are a number of examples of extreme violence when somebody considers blocking their access to something they believe is their right.

I suppose the question is do they pose more of a risk than other groups?
Would one compare them with a group with a similar demographic from the general population, or is it fairer to take another campaign group which have a strong desire for something that is controversial? Not too many groups with a record of violence come to mind. Palestine Action? BLM? BNP? Anti-abortionists? I reckon the bunch who vandalised the statues yesterday would vie with any of those when it comes to one not wanting to be in their midst if they think you oppose their views.

On reflection it’s probably to difficult to do.
We all bring our experience to these things. I don’t know of anyone who has had a negative experience with trans people so that’s probably colouring my thinking.
Do you think on a Saturday night a single female would be more likely to experience a negative event in a trans club or a straight club?

It's just extremists that are the problem. Sensible groups aren't. Then of course certain media sources massively over represent the tiny minority of these groups and group them in with the main issue.
I'd add just stop oil in to that group, worthwhile and noble cause but just piss people off with the way in which they raise their concerns.

Depends if the trans persons think they are dealing with a "TERF", when I think a woman would definitely be at risk of harassment and possible violence.

"I'd add just stop oil in to that group, worthwhile and noble cause but just piss people off with the way in which they raise their concerns" To be replaced by what exactly ?.
"In a free society, the State is the servant of the people—not the master."

By protesting in ways that persuade not alienate.
That goes for all groups.

Exactly the media I was referring to in my earlier post.
I take your point that such coverage tends to be confined to the right-wing press, rather than the Guardian or Independent, but that too says something from the opposite angle. The disturbing thing is that there are real events behind many of the stories. You can say we are just talking about a few activists, but how many in the crowd cheered the "punch a TERF" call captured in this video?
I believe For Women Scotland when they say they have received death threats.

I wonder what they'd be saying if someone was preaching to punch a transgender in the face, probably get themselves arrested
Sir Kier , our unnecessary titled for whatever he has done in his career is making a call to uphold a High Court ruling and back a sensible decision made in the Courts wow .
How long before he backtracks again on his promises and pledges and gives in to the lefties and voters who will discard him .
A Prime Minister with a real mandate or cannon fodder to not rock the boat .
U turn or an acceptable result forthcoming from our Government soon , any bets .

Great post.
This judgement will protect women and their rights in a variety of different ways but as you said, we’re talking about the behaviour of a tiny minority making it difficult for all.
The debate has become poisonous for all sides, including the vast majority of trans people who just want to get on with their lives. Ask the females in your life how many times they’ve been made to feel uncomfortable by a trans woman, then ask the same question about straight men.
As I said, this judgment is important and I hope it’ll take some of the heat out of the discussion in time.
Hopefully it’ll pan out like years ago when people linked homosexuality to paedophillia. Most have grown out of thinking like that now and I hope this will be the same with those trans people who are just wrestling with themselves and not trying to change reality for others.
I wouldn't say that it's a tiny minority. If anything the tiny minority are the genuine cases that I mentioned.
Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back.

Why should disabled have to share their abultions with some freakshow , if someone believes their the opposite to their birthday sex fine but gio the whole hog and do the job properly then use the appropriate toilet .
Take your point there Boundy….but a few years back I was forced to go to a Kylie Minnogue concert. It turned out to be brilliant until I had to use the toilets. It was really uncomfortable standing next to some 7’ nutter in full dancing girl gear, stocking etc. so maybe Res has a point.

Common sense prevailing, let's hope it's rolled out in all sports
The FA were nothing short of cowards on this. Banned trans women from professional but not grass roots sport. Now they can hide behind a judgement out they come!
And of course, the Government now say biology gives trans women an advantage!
Wonder how this ruling will affect those who have been smeared, sacked, cancelled, fined, arrested, even placed in gaol over the last few years for stating what the Supreme Court now agrees is a basic biological fact?
There are three million female players registered with the FA.
29 are trans.
Or 0.00001%
Surely this topic doesn’t need to be as hot as it is? I agree with the ruling and the FA announcement but blimey, should it deserve the air time it gets?
