Came over to add my condolences. Joe exemplified what football at our level is all about. That sense of belonging, that loyalty, that fighting spirit, not shown by all but by those that mattered. Joe did that in buckets. RIP Joe, you will rightly be a Rochdale legend for decades.
In all honesty, this has made me really quite emotional. I'm sure a lot Dale fans are feeling the same. My heart goes out to his nearest and dearest.
Thank you for all the memories Joey T. I'm sure a fitting tribute is being prepared. You can't retire every squad number, but not every person was Joey T. Retiring the 15 seems very fitting.
I couldn't get there for Joey T's legendary goal against Charlton. He did produce another goal that tried to stave off relegation, and it's an absolute beauty...
The Crown Oil Arena will be a very sad place on Monday, a glass will be raised to Joe....Condolences to his family and all who knew him.....Terrible news,,,,RIP Joe #15forever
There are few players in the history of Rochdale who we can say scored a goal which changed the clubs entire trajectory. Chris O’Grady with the promotion goal against Northampton is one. Joey Thompson and the goal that kept us up against Charlton is another. For that goal alone he would have been a Dale legend. But to do have done it having missed most of the season recovering from a second cancer diagnosis. To do it being a local lad, one of our own - surely puts his goal above all others. His fight, both on and off the pitch, was inspirational. I’m absolutely gutted by today’s news and I trust that in time the club will come up with a fitting tribute to a true Rochdale legend, taken far too young.
RIP Joe. An icon of Rochdale AFC and a true club legend. Such an inspirational person and my heart goes out to his young family at this devastating time. A true fighter till the end and when Dale were fighting for their League 1 survival it was fitting he came off the bench and saved us that memorable day v Charlton. It was written in the stars and its a day all Dale fans will never forget. Thank you Joe 💜
Its a BRILLIANT goal to cap a BRILLIANT start by Rochdale - Don Goodman 26/08/10
A lovely human being who battled against adversity, Joe, to live on in all our hearts and minds is never to die. You will always be with us. You are one of our own.
I am blessed to have such wonderful memories of you, young man. A true hero and legend.
My deepest condolences to your wife, children and family.
Heard rumours about his passing last night but didn't want to believe it, absolutely terrible news for everyone, a lovely family man and an even better human being, rest in peace Joe a life taken far far too soon.
