The sending off was a decision I didn't agree with, but to answer your question, it was somewhere between 1995 & 1998!

I can't remember which year it was that I was stupid enough to try being the man in the middle, but it was the season that intent was removed!

Intent still remains in the law for handball though.

Maybe it was because it was against Man Utd - they've been getting decisions from refs for years

While I strongly agree that Utd have countless decisions gone their way espiceally at old trafford i think this was a red card all day .
Yes I know he slipped but he was basically out of control and the sheer force of the tackle ending with the dangerous sissors like ending was a straight red IMO.

But that was my entire point, he wouldn’t have been out of control if he hadn’t slipped.

It's a symptom of the modern age. I have noticed that these days, there is a drastic lack of basic common sense, and sound judgement.
I suppose living at a time where the Prime Minister cannot tell you what a Woman is, explains a good deal.

Not true, the PM has made it clear that to be a woman one has to be biologically female. If in doubt you simply ask to inspect their private bits.

Strong and stable my arse.

Good old VAR: ref didn’t think it was worth a red card, VAR force an on screen review, neither party recognise the guy has slipped, as with 99% of screen reviews the ref backs down once he’s seen the incident in slow motion and backs his chum running VAR.

Apols, downvoted in error!

Mad red card. Mad processes. Mad game in the Prem. Can't believe people are accepting it.

It was clearly a red card offence if the slip was missed, For the referee to give a yellow he must have seen the slip and the only explanation was that he was told to change to red. Why VAR asked for a red card only they can explain.

Very little hope I would imagine. The league are hardly likely to publicly disagree with both VAR and the referee.

I watched Partick Thistle v Fakirk on BBC Scotland via iPlayer on Friday night. We don't have Sky and I saw a rare opportunity for me to watch a FTA game so did.

First half ref booked a Partick player for a meaty tackle, then sent him off for a ridiculously soft foul 10 minutes later.

Second half with 11 minutes to go a Falkirk player commits an identical foul to the Partick's first half yellow - straight red, mainly it seemed because the ref got mobbed by Partick players, insane decision.

Unsurprisingly he’s won his appeal.

Wonder if we will get an explanation as to why VAR and subsequently the referee thought it a red card

How can they win the appeal? So the premier league is admitting that VAR got it wrong in suggesting the ref review the decision but also the ref then got it wrong for changing his decision when in fact his original decision was right?

WTF is going on in the PL? This is madness. When Diaz scored that goal for Liverpool on Sunday that was ruled out but then reviewed and actually allowed I thought to myself - How bad would that have been if it were a title deciding goal on the last day of the season? You celebrate a moment like that after a 60 second sterile nothing in the stadium... players stood about. You celebrate a referee's action, not the goal going in? It's removing the thing from football that makes it unique. Madness.

They seem to have completely missed the point that the only thing that needed fixing from football were the egregious mistakes... not whether some geezer's shoulder blade was playing him onside ffs. Give it one look and if it ain't obviously wrong, let the on field decision stand. It ain't hard.
