The Final Insult 07:30 - Apr 28 with 1364 views | Ron11 | Ross Stewart quoted in the Echo: 'We don't need to change too much to bounce back to the Premier League' Does he/they actually think we are that fu cking stupid? Especially coming from a player with his toweringly impressive record...
The Final Insult on 08:47 - Apr 28 with 1259 views | saintmark1976 | In the pampered world of professional football, when you have received a massive signing on fee and earn £20000 a week for playing half a game every now and then, it’s bound to effect the way you perceive reality I suppose. Does he/they actually think that we are fu cking stupid ? Yep, all evidence does appear to point in that direction doesn’t it.

The Final Insult on 09:56 - Apr 28 with 1149 views | SaintNick | I actually agree with him, we will have the foundations of the squad that got us up last season still intact, we will have money from selling the likes of Ramsdale, Fernandes & Dibling who didn't play in our promotion and we can make some good loan signings. To be blunt he probably does think some of our fans are stupid, as his toweringly impressive record of games played in professional football including caps for Scotland is probably a lot more than the entire paying crowd on Saturday combined. I usually find that with football pundits, the more impressive the playing record, the more out of touch the comments.

To be honest Nick, I’m not at all surprised that you actually agree with Stewart. Particularly given that unless said in jest, you consider that Stewart has a “ toweringly impressive record in professional football”. That’s the wonderful thing about watching and commenting about football though isn’t it ? At the end of the day the tables don’t lie, in the meantime it’s just differing opinions either from those who have played or for that matter those who haven’t.

Theres not much left to sell. We will need to try and raise 100mill to cover this seasons wastefulness. Once you sell ramsdale, fernadez ,Dibling and THB who else will bring in fees substantial fees? Take Downes, i doubt a premiership club would come in for him and could a championship club afford him? Would you want to sell him to Ipswich? Is he going to be motivated having thrown his toys out of the pram? We are losing KWP for free, have 2 awful keepers left in mccarthy and Baz, a leaky defence and probably whole host of demotivated players

I'm not convinced a Premier lge club will come in for Dibling. He just hasn't done enough to justify all the early season hype. Apart from him having a couple of decent promising performances in before Xmas, since then he has been dreadful. Unless he changes his languid attitude then he'll go nowhere. I know some will defend him & say that he's suffered because he's playing in a very poor side. Albeit having to cope with the change of Managers he just hasn't convinced me that he's nothing but a one trick pony.

My point was this, compared to everyone slagging him off for, not for being a bad player, no one actually knows that yet, but for being injured for two years, he actually does have a "toweringly impressive record in professional football”. I would guess that none of us on here have actually played professional football at the same level as Stewart or been capped at International level. That being the case Stewart's opinion should be given some respect, I still laugh now when our fans used to call Jan Poortvliet clueless and knowing nothing about football when he had played in a World Cup final

He played in a World Cup final. Djimi Traore won the Champions League. The highest of accolades are not always achieved by the highest-quality participants.

You are right, but they are never achieved by those who don't have a certain level of expertise in the first place,

I'm sorry but I can't agree. We are going to lose four/five players of any quality including Ramsdale, KWP, Fernadez, THB, Dibling and perhaps others. (I think Bednarek will go and I hope that Smallbone will as well). Our recruiting team have shown themselves to be spectacularly inept and I have no confidence that they will identify or attract quality replacements. It's obvious that the owners don't appreciate the step up in quality from Champ to PL or that if they did they were unwilling to spend enough to bridge that gap. I see no signs of that situation changing. I think we have to accept that unless Stewart puts in a 30 goal season (and to be honest if he plays 30 games next season, that will be an improvement), we are at best mid table Champ next season and three or four seasons away from being in the promotion mix. I see no great or startling talent in the players outside the first team squad who are ready made replacements.

At the age of 28, Stewart has scored 10goals at championship level - hardly a a stella career.
