5 Things About Fulham Game 09:49 - Apr 28 with 2577 viewsSaintNick

1. The fire drill after Fulham's winner, I can understand it from one point of view as it was gutting, but there was still 4 minutes left of injury time, those that stayed tried to rally the team, but against a backdrop of empty seats you could see the players had nothing to give.

2. A big message to the board about prices next season, roughly 3,000 short of a full house and that is perhaps being kind given the number of season ticket holders who didn't turn up.

3. Why do we not play Adam Lallana, Ryan Fraser & Charlie Taylor, ideal players in the final 20 minutes as we are trying to close out a game.

4. The Red Wall has lost it's initial passion, lots of empty seats now and no real vocal support, at best a bit sporadic and with no away fans to bounce off its all a bit flat.

5. No one seems to have any pride in the club, Ipswich fans have pride in theirs, so do Leicester, so why don't we.

1. The inevitability of the loss once they'd equalised was depressing

2. Felt to me like most people around me had just given up and were going through the motions, also there were A LOT of empty seats around me mostly from season ticket holders

3. Heard an interesting rumour from someone VERY itk that the club are up for sale again

4. Made the mistake of having to get food in the ground as i didn't get time for lunch and jesus how do the club justify asking the prices they do for the food, and who the hell eats it?

5. Lastly but not leastly b*llocks to Saints our mate Derrick won the ISKA British Title on saturday night, so not every Sotonian is title shy

1. I stayed right until the final whistle and collected my "I'm a better fan that you" badge on the way out. I'll wear it with pride at the remaining games this season.

2. I very much doubt they care.

3. Don't think our subs have positively impacted us once all season, whereas the opposition, on several occasions, have significantly improved after making theirs.

4. It's full of gimps and has been shit all season

5. Ipswich have been in lower leagues for 30 odd years and at least had a go, so it's not surprising they're looking on the bright side. Not sure about Leicester; their fans seem to moan equally/more than ours do, despite actually winning major honours in the last 10 years.

In answer to your point 5 - Both clubs have in there own way had good times recently. Ipswich 2 seasons ago were in Div 1 and going no where. They suddenly go up to the premiership and they have seen a few wins. So i can understand why they are happy.
Leicester have won more in the last decade than we have in our entire history so havent got so much to grumble about.

Point 3, let’s hope if we are, this happens very quickly. Given the lack of engagement from the club with the fans, it smacks of the board not giving a toss anymore. If they want out that is probably why.

1, I stayed until the end in the hope we’d snatch a late equaliser. It’s the hope that kills

2, the group behind me weren’t there, they usually are no matter how bad it’s been this season. There’s always been a few of them regardless. Not Saturday.

3, subs once again not impacting positivity is something that needs addressing desperately

4, see point 2, I’d guess that in the old days of a terrace, people would ultimately bunch together. With designated standing places, people go where they are supposed to. With a half empty stand it’s no surprise.

5, there’s no connection with the club by the fans at present. Just frustration and despair at watching a car crash unfold in front of us since last May.

It's still not terribly clear to me how easy it is to buy a club which is part of a multi-club group.

Ankersen (still a fairly significant shareholder in Sport Republic) is not going to want the club to be sold, given the negative impact it will have on Goztepe, who he seems to be dedicating most of his time to.

I fear this would be complicated at best, and that any buyer would have to pay a premium to compensate Solak for the reduced value of Goztepe and Valenciennes, which would be inevitable if they didn't have Premier League parachute payment money to help prop them up.

i've no idea on the intricacies but it's one of those ones that as usual i have no reason to disbelieve.

Whether it happens is yet to be seen though

1. People go early when they are yet again disappointed and just want an extra few minutes to try and beat the city traffic congestion, which appears to me to have got worse this season. Particularly given that the road outside the Stadium appears to be closed forever nowadays.

2. What was the official crowd including season ticket holders who I understand get counted irrespective of attendance or not ?

3. Because in the main they are old (in football terms) and have no or little resale value.

4. Agreed. The passion went when the clocks went back when most fans realised we were certain to be relegated. In truth there wasn’t much passion before then even.

5. Because the owners and employees of Sports Republic have turned a well run family friendly club which other clubs looked to aspire too into an unmitigated shambles. Not helped by their total inability to communicate properly with the club’s fans unless they want to extract money from us.

Taking your points

1. The congestion hasn't been as bad this season at least on the west side of the city, probably because so many leave early.

2. the Crowd was 28,900 about 3,000 short of capacity.

3. Im not sure that your point 5 is quite true, you say SR turned us from a well run family friendly club, they arrived after 3 years of Gao being unable to invest and getting stick from the fans, he had taken over from Katharina Liebherr who brought some stability but still got stick from the fans, before that it was Cortese running the show and nearly bankrupting the club again and putting up prices and not giving two hoots about the club or its supporters.

Before that it was Wilde and his mob and Lowe etc who took over from the share scandal old board.

When have we actually been a well run family friendly club ? Probably in the late 1970s would be my guess.

I think the general perception is that we had those successful years in the mid teens so we must therefore have been a well run club thanks to the rose tinted glasses and success (for us) on the field

Let's be honest, when we're winning we (almost) couldn't give a sh1t about how well the club is run as we enjoyed that period in the sun. I mean, do Man City or Newcastle care about the background of their owners or how the club is run having zillions of notes buying success (as well as recruiting pretty well due to that dosh)

2- no way was the crowd, 28900
My guess is around 25000, lots of empty seats normally occupied by ST holders

I think a lot of the 'lack of passion' is due to our awful Premiership home record in recent years.

1. What did you honestly expect regarding the fire drill ? It was a kick in the balls to everyone. 1 x KWP shot aside, we didn't look like scoring in the whole of the 2nd half, so why would it suddenly chance in injury time ? The players had nothing to give, just like pretty much the whole season. Oh and we were set up to be defensive, had just 1/3 of the possession (at home to Fulham FFS) and only had 7 shots all game (Fulham about 25).

2. Everyone is surprised that the fans have continued to attend to the bitter end. Let's face it, it has been awful all season. Perhaps if we had won the odd game, scored a few goals, played some entertaining stuff and had some players actually put a shift in, then the fans would have stayed. The season is over and fans are simply going through the motions, waiting for it to end. Regardless of the fact that we will get extra games on STs next season, they need to remain the same as a minimum, but preferably reduce them. We have delivered in numbers this season (home and away), so the club needs to recognise this and reward us.

3. They are clearly not good enough - for 3 different managerial set ups. Maybe we are saving them for the Championship, if they are still with us next season.

4. The red wall has been a complete failure. Basically the atmosphere there reflects what we get on the pitch.

5. Surely the very fact that so many fans have attended whilst we have been so shite, is testament to our pride. This is despite the fact that our last two and a half seasons in the Prem have been absolutely woeful. 1 win in our last 12 games in 21-22, 2 home wins all season in 22-23 and 1 home win this season. Leicester have turned on their owners and team, despite some success and Ipswich fans have had successive promotions and perhaps agree that they went up to the Prem a season or 2 too early.

I was not at the game but have a view on some of the points raised.

Football clubs, especially those in the PL and Champ, are not "family friendly" now and have not been for at least one generation, perhaps more. The myth that a club attracts loyalty from players, staff, fans is just that - a myth. All the club cares about is revenue.

Look at the "big" clubs and the stats around those who attend matches. One survey puts 44% of spectators at a "top" club home match as being tourists tor just a day. I'm pretty sure that's high, but even if it were 25%, these people - on holiday - have cash to spend and are worth far more than the ST holder who turns up ten minutes from kick off, with a sandwich and drink and leaves as soon (or before) the final whistle because of all the reasons above.

That percentage of "fans" cares nothing about loyalty. It's a bucket list thing for them to do on holiday.

3. I think our subs have cost us every single game this season at a point of a draw or we were ahead
truly abysmal choices from three different managers, is this because we dont have enough quality or is t because the wrong choices were made? Juric at OT was a total disaster, 1 nil our midfield bossing it and the best two players on the park, he takes them off
equally Smallbones intro on many occasions has been the catalyst

Was ironically saying the same thing on Saturday.

Players were warming up in front of us and we were saying we hoped that Smallbone didn't come on, as he usually changes the game for the opposition !!

We then went on to say that we haven't got a very strong bench - certainly nobody that can change the game if we are behind. Fulham had Smith-Rowe and indeed Traore - both of whom were introduced and impacted the game with a (deflected) goal and an assist to win them the points.
