Agreed the past isn't always best and I don't share 49th's pessimism that all about the town is bleak, but I do have to agree about the innovative drive and fantastic arts scene in Rochdale in the 70s - visual arts as he cites including a town artist, Cartwheel, M6 Theatre, Tractor, Deeply Vale, RAP - it attracted me to make Rochdale my home

I wouldn't expect many older people to be in touch with what's happening in the arts scene in Rochdale, but it's there if you care to look for it (and btw, M6 Theatre is still thriving)

It may also be different now, but that's a matter of taste and a generational thing

A reminder of the thread title - for generations to come.

It's forward looking.

It's innovative.

We are at the very beginning of a new journey based on an established town/football club.

There's a hole in my arse
Potholes less frequent
Sounds like a farce

Good to see the Charming Prof Alice Roberts doing a fine feature of Rochdale on BBC "Digging for Britain" this evening. Volunteers are excavating Packer Street where apparently the rich textile business owners lived alongside their businesses. Very interesting piece that highlighted local children given free reign to have a go and see what they encountered.

It's a repeat from a couple of years back when Town Hall Square was being renovated, but nonetheless, a fine example of getting children involved in local archaeology.

"the Charming Prof Alice Roberts"

Indeed.
